Usb stick isn’t recognized in system

I have a 32gb usb stick formatted in ntfs. CHKDSK finds no errors. NTFS-3G is installed. Another external drive external hdd drive mounts normally. But this usb stick is not detected in the system in any way.

I have some problems due to my internet provider

Network 78.37.128.0/17 (Rostelecom networks) is blocked from uploading files due to frequent abuse.

Could it be that your device is being charged via a USB-C connection and you are trying to establish a data connection where it is not intended? If this message appears when you connect the USB stick, then you can assume that the socket does not transfer any data, but is only suitable for the power supply.

If the USB stick doesn’t appear under lsusb, then it must be the hardware. It may also be that there is not enough power being supplied to operate the USB stick.

My laptop can be charged through this port. But as I wrote at the very beginning, the external hdd connects through this port without any problems. And other flash drives too:

So the problem, as you said, is neither Manjaro nor the USB socket, but the 32GB USB stick. Maybe just a loose contact?

I don’t know for sure. Two other windows computers detect this usb stick without problems.
I don’t trust my memory :sweat_smile:, but it seems to me that smth like a year ago I definitely used this usb stick with this laptop and everything worked fine.

If the drive is detected on other machines; fine; however, do other USB drives seem to work on the same port? If so, all that remains (at least superficially) is that the physical connection no longer takes place; in which case (at face value) a damaged port seems the most likely.

If you search for the error messages online, this may give a better indication of other possible causes. Yesterday I did the same, and found mentioned similar errors when connecting an external monitor to a USB-C port; perhaps related. Good luck.

Hi,

I'm using quite a new device (Lenovo Yoga 9 (14ITL5)) on ArchLinux with 
mainline kernel version 5.14.0-rc7 and run into the following error:

ucsi_acpi USBC000:00: ucsi_handle_connector_change: GET_CONNECTOR_STATUS 
failed (-5)

The device is charged using a USB-C cable and this error is related to 
attaching or detaching the power cable. Sometimes I can at-/detach the 
cable without this error showing, in other cases it appears once, and 
then I have cases where it floods my kernel log with one such message 
per second.

Sometimes the above error is accompanied by this additional error:

ucsi_acpi USBC000:00: UCSI_GET_PDOS failed (-5)

I attached the kernel log and the information from `lsusb`. Feel free to 
request further logs, though I will most likely require some pointers on 
how to get them.

I doubt I fully understood how they fixed the problem. But it seems to me that this is not my option.

search the forum for ntfs. there are dozens of topics and threads about it and keep in mind that you don’t use ntfs for sticks in future. if they have to be readable in all different operating systems use the “exfat” system what is invented for this use.

Formatted to exfat - usb stick is still undetectiable. But, now i get nothing at all via:

If another USB drive works in the same USB port, use that instead; and throw that drive into the recycler, irrespective of your notion that it should work because it worked a year ago.

Now it doesn’t; toss it, and move on. Cheers.
