Updating intel, nvidia and amd drivers, why?

I have an amd rx6600xt graphics card installed, today I noticed that the update manager also suggests updating the drivers for intel and nvidia, is it possible to remove these drivers?

This might be helpful:

If your mainboard has onboard Nvidia or Intel graphic chipsets in addition to your discrete AMD RX 6600 XT, then removing those might not be advisable; and if not, leaving them installed does no harm as they would then not be used.

Anecdotal:- If you ever need to swap out your graphics card for another – for any reason at all – it’s likely convenient to keep them updated with the rest of the system.

To help ascertain whether they are needed, please provide your system information as described (below).

Regards.

Update Announcements

The Update Announcements contain important information and a Known Issues and Solutions section that should generally be checked before posting a request for support.

System Information

While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; :eyes:

Output of the inxi command (with appropriate parameters, and formatted according to forum guidelines) will generate information useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form (preferred):

inxi -zv8c0

Be prepared to provide output from other commands whenever asked. It’s equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.

linux-firmware got split into smaller packages. A meta-package ensures basic firmware installation. For stripping it down you may remove it after you have done the upgrade.

It has been like that since months now, you have linux-firmware-meta installed which replace linux-firmware. Read the update announcements they provide all the information all the time.
Now manage your packages if you want to specifically remove some firmware, you’re the admin of your machine.

I think I’ll leave these packages, although I don’t plan to install other graphics cards. I’m new to manjaro and arch, and I’ve already broken the system once.
As I understand it, these packages are necessary for unification, so that in case of a hardware change, I don’t have to configure everything.
Thanks for the answers, the topic can be closed.

From your inxi output I note that you have no swap configured. Whether you deliberately chose not to use swap or simply missed it during installation, I can’t say.

However, I’ll mention that if you plan on hibernating your system at any time, you’re going to need swap space defined; whether it be a partition or file (partition preferred).

If you never plan to hibernate, a swap file is probably still a good idea, even though you have 32 GB of physical RAM.

Here’s what you need to know; you decide:
