I’m not happy that this update had to take 2 different timeshift snapshots because it had to update manjaro-system (which did nothing) in its own transaction, then it updated the rest of my packages in a second transaction, both of which triggered a timeshift snapshot.

That’s the way timeshift works. You can go back in “time” before packages were installed so what’s your point ?

When you have timeshift timeshift-autosnap-manjaro grub-btrfs installed the system keeps three snaps to your benefit and making it possible to go back if needed.
