Quick & Dirty Advice™

  1. Make sure you have a working backup of your system.

  2. Always back up your non-system data separately, i.e. /home and /srv.

  3. For full system updates, update your system from a tty while completely logged out of the GUI environment. See [HowTo] Updating Manjaro as safely as possible.

  4. After updating your system…
    ° clean out your orphans (sudo pacman -Rns $(pacman -Qdtq));
    ° update your AUR packages, and if necessary, your FlatPaks and Snaps;
    ° issue a clean reboot;
    ° tend to your .pacnew files;
    ° make a full system backup again.
