Update icon not reset after updating flatpaks

Hi all!

This is clearly minor, but I found a glitch with the tray icon signaling updates: if the updated package is a flatpack, the icon stays red (and shows the need for updates with the right click) even if the package has already been updated.

After log in/log out it the icons go back to the normal white status.

Could it be something of my configuration, or can somebody else confirm it?

BTW, I’m on wayland and GNOME:

Your screenshot is of GNOME Software while the update notifier icon is from Add /Remove Software (aka Pamac). Apparently you have Google Chrome installed from the AUR, not as a Flatpak.

You can verify by checking what’s installed:

flatpak list | grep Chrome

Hmmm… I do not think so.

The big window is the one that shows up when I click “Package Manager” in the right click menu.

Aargh, I expected as much. Sometimes stderr / stdout (look up each term if you’d like) messages aren’t always helpful. It sounds like you’ve already made sure you were fully up to date via pacman, so the next step would be using GDB to debug the program. Let’s see if @guinux can chime in, otherwise I’ll try to collect debug info when there will be another flatpak update. My wild guess is that it’s just a missing “update_icon_status” somewhere and nothing more, everything is working well otherwise.

Ok, I had an OpenShot video editor flatpak update this morning, and I followed the instructions you posted there. I run the pamac manager with debug as explained here.

There were no errors, and the run went ok, but the log is almost unreadable due to the prompt thingies… Anyway, I have it if needed, in txt.gz format, that seems I can’t upload here.

I tried again in a dumb terminal… and it’s a bit better, but no error again:

Again, the icon is still red and it still indicates the need of an update,

but the update seems done:

I have noticed the same issue when updating Flatpaks, I just close the update Applet in the System Tray, it reloads next time there is any update.

Hmm, that is not possible in Gnome — there is no option in the right-click menu to close the applet/indicator.

To me the update notifications is an annoyance so I disable it completely.

I check for updates when syncing will not interfere with the work I am doing.

Open pamac → Preferences → set update notification to weekly - then disable - and save.

I also only use one mirror in my mirror pool to ensure consistency.
