[Unstable Update] June 2025

Not if they are installed as “explicit”. And if they’re not, then you can change the install reason for the ones you want to keep to “explicit” before removing the meta-package.

Still, it won’t hurt to keep your eyes open.

I agree, that’s a possibility for the experienced users (incl. myself) but I currently prefer my system inline with the majority, so for the moment I keep all the firmware packages. Of course, it would be nice if on the long term only the required firmwares would be installed automatically.

kitemmodels5 was pushed to AUR on 2025-06-21 but it is required by manjaro-settings-manager. Is there a different package of manjaro settings manager to be used now?

Phil added kitemmodels5 to the repos for now.

Well, that can be tricky. mhwd might be the tool to look into for that, however, some hardware won’t even boot if there is no firmware present …

It is called unstable for a reason. Having unbootable systems can happen. We will monitor the situation, though.

I noticed that some applications like DBeaver, Datagrip or TinyMediaManager weren’t launched correctly anymore after the last update.
They were either just a black window on the secondary screen or, if I move it to the primary screen, showed content but not responsive to any mouse actions.

I found out that the update somehow broke my Plasma display arrangement (consisting of 3 displays).
The displays were tiny and in the lower right corner.
After i moved them around a bit, the size was back to normal again.
When I saved the settings, these apps were working again.

Yes, it is.

…well, as far as can be done via packaging. Now we wait for upstream…

If i’m not wrong, It could make a sense in long term, on a desktop computer : when swapping components (GPU, Motherboard, etc…), i feel that limiting the packages to the hardware already installed could cause startup issue.
