I am unable to reboot into a wayland session after update. I have to use x11. Not sure how to troubleshoot this ?

I installed update but when I reboot into wayland it hangs up. I can log into X11 but not wayland. After several reboots and logging out of x11 and I can get into wayland but can never just reboot into wayland.

Your system is already old, and the same is true for its Nvidia graphics adapter. I’m afraid your graphics adapter isn’t supported by any of the current proprietary drivers that support Wayland.
To be honest, i don’t think running the proprietary driver would yield any usability benefits on a machine of such low power in this day and age, so perhaps you should consider switching to the GPL’d nouveau driver instead.
Thought Linux was good for old computers. So when wayland goes mainstream I will have to toss it ?
GNU/Linux is. Nvidia on the other hand is a notoriously bad player, and their drivers are proprietary. Furthermore, if you’re buying Nvidia, then you’re buying planned obsolescence.
No, you can use the nouveau driver instead — see my previous post. nouveau is Free Software and is already in the kernel from upstream.

Go to manjaro settings manager → hardware and under nvidia select a free opensource driver instead of the proprietary 470.
I used auto install open source drivers which was sucessful but under video-nvidia-470xx shows installed but not open source. It shows video-linux as installed and open source ,video-modesetting,and video-vesa as open source but not installed
I wouldn’t bother with the VESA driver — it’s for hopelessly outdated hardware. video-linux is the one you need. Uninstall the proprietary driver.

Should be no need to cross fingers. I have one old Dell with an old nVidia GPU, it works perfectly with the Open Source Driver.
