Unable to search exact words( not case sensitive ) in pdf in Okular in both X11 as well as Wayland session. Please help

Works fine on my end. You sure the PDF is text and not images?

some pdf’s are not searchable - like a photograph
depends on how the pdf was created, with what program and from what source

… example:
you can make a screenshot
and export that .png or .jpeg as a .pdf
it’ll not contain anything that lets you search through what still appears to be text …

There is software which will (try to) scan the image - and extract the text and put it in a .pdf again.
That might work …

Well that maybe true but when I write in Word document and export it as pdf and again try to search the word via Okular - it is unable to do so

I tried with a scanned pdf as well as a pdf created from a Word document - In both cases I cannot search the particular Word

CTRL+F does not search words for you?

CTRL+F launches the search bar but when I put in my required word it is unable to do so and results in a red highlighted area within the search bar

That means the word was not found. This approach works for me with a pdf based on text.

Let me show you my screenshot - from the pdf I made from a word document - notice spelling is matched but Okular cannot highlight it in the pdf

… specificity
word document?
which program?
settings to produce/create the document?
from the name it looks like it is a print preview

If you save a word document (with whatever program you use)
as a pdf (or export it as such)
can you usually search through the content?

… you should be able to

OnlyOfficeDesktopEditors - default supplied from Manjaro KDE Stable.
It is printed as pdf

print - to a file
(which is usually what is sent to the printer)
might be different than
save as
or
export as
pdf

and then use that resulting file

as in:
the printer gets sent a picture of what to print
pixel by pixel
not the original pdf

It’s speculation on my part - but possible.

Save as pdf.
Can you search through the resulting file?

I do not know or use that program, btw.

Now that is weird. Save as pdf works and word is highlighted on searching it.

But why on print as pdf doesn’t work for searching ?

… of course
a (saved) print preview is not the same as the content exported and saved as a pdf

it just looks the same

the printer doesn’t care whats in the document - it needs pixel values and where to put them …

I don’t understand. Can something be done about it so that search functionality is also enabled on printed pdf’s ?

I just added another sentence.

if that does not help - I can’t think of a way to make it any more clear.
sorry

a print preview is simply a different thing than the original document (pdf or other) which it is created from

So no way to work around it, I guess

work around what?

save as pdf
done - it’s searchable

print to file
it’s also labelled as pdf - but not searchable

no work around needed
just save as pdf and use that
?

that is not a work around - that is proper procedure
