Tunnelbear VPN not working

Hi guys, this time I have a VPN issue, I tried a lot to find an openvpn file but I couldn’t find it, I searched a lot and I know it’s the best, I also used tunnelbear but it didn’t work, here’s a video demonstration of the issue

https://h.top4top.io/m_3075zfj471.mp4

If I change my ip, Is it better than using a VPN?

They claim you can use WireGuard and OpenVpn and IKEv2 - I’d opt for WireGuard.

So: you did not actually use it?

maybe - it appears the documentation on how to make it work is somewhat lacking

Here:

https://help.tunnelbear.com/hc/en-us/articles/5907031724443-VPN-Protocol-Choosing-how-you-connect-to-TunnelBear

they don’t even mention Linux.

same here:

TunnelBear: Secure VPN Service

I’d have downloaded and looked at it - but at this point I wouldn’t even know which one to choose.

You cannot change your IP - the best you can do is reconnect and hope you get another one from your provider.
… which is equivalent to not having changed it at all …

There is an AUR package last updated 6 years ago.
How did you install it?
And which one? The choice they give you is only between Mac, iOS, Windows and Android.

I have used Mullvad, then I got greedy and switched to AtlasVPN - but they soon closed shop and transferred all their users to NordVPN, where I’m now.
I’d not have chosen that one had I seen this coming - but I paid AtlasVPN for 3 years and that is how long I’ll stay with Nord before I go back to Mullvad. :grinning:

I haven’t used it yet, but I tried it and it didn’t work. I looked it up and found this way for Linux
TunnelBear Befriends Penguins with Limited Linux Support
I watched a video on the subject, but it didn’t work.
Is there a program you can recommend for me to use?

I just did, at the end of my post.

On the page you linked to, they give a download location where you can get the openvpn file that you need.

They also tell you to restart the NetworkManager.service (at the very end).
In your video you did not do that.
But that is perhaps only needed when you had dnsmasq enabled - I don’t know.

You also selected some options like data compression which are not in the description …

I did not restart it, I prefer openvpn a lot, but I did not find any file that works, even the files they gave me did not work as I watched Finding a working file takes time sometimes and you may find it quickly Is AtlasVPN free, I am looking for free, I also tried protonvpn but it did not work on Manjaro, I used it on Ubuntu previously

As I said: AtlasVPN is no more - they closed shop and transferred all their users to NordVPN, where I’m now.
and no: it was not free and Nordvpn also is not free - it was(!) just about half the price of Mullvad, which is why I said: I got greedy and went for it for a three year plan (for about $ 60,-)

thank you bro i didn’t use paid service but if i didn’t find a free one i will try paid one

I have been nudged to learn - but I’m apparently stubborn and do not learn easily - that the saying “you usually get what you pay for” has quite some truth to it.

Did you notice that the description on how to set it up and use it was from 10 years ago?
(oh, sorry: updated 4 years ago)

And now they don’t even have a dedicated Linux version or description on how to set it up.

I would not waste my time on it.

Mullvad was excellent!

Cheers!

No, I didn’t notice this, thank you for explaining, but why is it that if I change the IP address, I don’t benefit from it?

What would be the benefit you expect from it?

What a VPN does is:
it acts as if this was your location - the rest of the traffic to and from to your actual location cannot be seen by the other end.
… a dedicated server that acts as if it was … you

The other end can only see that server - not you.

And if you trust them not to reveal where you are, where they relay that traffic to, you are not traceable - only up to their server.
If you trust them not to hold records that they could be forced to reveal …

Some sites do not work with some VPN’s - because these sites know the IP of these servers, they know that this is a VPN endpoint - and simply do not serve you.

No, I didn’t notice this, thank you for explaining, but why is it that if I change the IP address, I don’t benefit from it?

Why do you literally ask the same question twice?

once again:

and:
from whom do you get your IP?
From your provider.

Force to get a new one - if you can.
You still get it from that same provider.

Because that is who gives you access - and you need to have an address.
The IP is your address.
Internet works that way.

You won’t get mail if you don’t have an address or if you do not tell other people how to reach you.

You could send mail to some address - but you could not have any feedback.

I deal with Emirates Etisalat, I want to change to VPN because there are some services that do not work, such as calling Discord, which I need, and many services that I need.

Fortunately I do not have (and did not have) to deal with these kinds of restrictions.
I do not know to which level of “censoring” they go.

I know next to nothing about the UAE and the situation there.

What I do know is that changing your DNS provider to one that is not supplied by your internet provider
may be able to circumvent some primitive measures.
search term: custom DNS

A real VPN (and trustworthy) may be the only option you have.
And Mullvad for $ 5 a month may be well worth it.
It is also not a long term subscription - is is totally unproblematic to pay for one month and then discontinue/abandon the service until you may want to use it once again.
$ 5,- is all you need - instead of committing to a year long plan.

i will search about it thank you bro I have benefited greatly from your valuable information.

You are welcome!

Be well!
