Tty1 is stuck on /dev/nvme0n1p5: clean, # files, # blocks

A couple of days ago I was trying to reboot my laptop but it was frozen, so I turned it off through the power button, when it came up tty1 was stuck on recovering journal, tty2 goes into Desktop session: (plasma X11).
I followed some fixes from forums with a similar problem:

  1. boot into a live USB (I booted into Gparted)
  2. run fsck -f /dev/nvme0n1p5
  3. after it is done reboot
    I now have tty1 always displaying /dev/nvme0n1p5: clean, # files, # blocks
and tty2 boots into the desktop session.

Hi @Yamo,

AFAIK this is correct. Mine also does it. Has always done so.

No need to worry, as long as it gets to the desktop.

Same here; just as additional confirmation.

@Mirdarthos @soundofthunder Thanks for the fast response.
Since it’s apparently not a problem I will mark this as solved.

Since no-one has said why…tty1 is used for boot messages.

I can’t remember if this is true for manjaro, but pretty sure it’s not true for all distros (memory’s not as good nowadays). AFAIK tty1 used to be a normal tty.
