Well @megavolt you were correct! Thanks. I would have thought it would have been part of the OS default installation?

Why should it?

If a large part of the userbase never use AUR - why should they be bothered with maintaining a set of binaries completely useless to them?

The can be said about kernel-headers - which from time to time is mentioned the in the same manner.

On the other hand - if you want to use AUR you need to be familiar with how you build and possibly maintain your PKGBUILDs.
