Troubleshooting unusually long restart time

I have to wait a long time every time I try to restart my PC. It’s the shutting down that’s slow not the boot up:

Startup finished in 1.615s (kernel) + 12.482s (userspace) = 14.097s
graphical.target reached after 4.973s in userspace.

LOAD = Reflects whether the unit definition was properly loaded.
ACTIVE = The high-level unit activation state, i.e. generalization of SUB.
SUB = The low-level unit activation state, values depend on unit type.
170 loaded units listed. Pass --all to see loaded but inactive units, too.
To show all installed unit files use 'systemctl list-unit-files'.

And when it’s restarting this is what seems to be taking time:

Hi @lordlance,

Please provide the output for:

journalctl --boot=-1 --priority=4 --no-pager

Where:

  • --boot=-1 is the reference to the previous boot. Since we’re looking for shutdown problems, it is at the end of the previous boot;
  • --priority=4 just limits the output to warnings and error messages only;
  • --no-pager formats the output so that it is usable here, on the forum.

Hope you manage!

Edit:

Please also provide the output of:

sudo dmesg | grep -i Fail

So, check your /etc/fstab:

So I suggest that you go through /etc/fstab and check that every UUID listed in fstab is the same as the one listed on the corresponding partition UUID.

Based on what I see, they do match:

Been looking at this again, obviously I know, and just saw this :point_down:

… and those two calls are about 2 minutes apart, and the one it got stuck on is plasmashell. But this makes no sense as I also use it and don’t have it.

So that’s making me think it’s some kind of customization. So I say test if it’s not a theme. Either Plasma shell or SDDM.

I don’t know what else it can be, so I hope it helps!
