Hi,
Following yesterday’s update, I am completely lost. I rebooted the computer right after, everything looked usual. This morning, after booting, appears on the monitor the overview of all running applications - upper left corner icon view - and with the dock at the bottom with big icons of low resolution. When I click the upper left corner icon, I do not see the dock and some icons - home, update - are missing on the right side of the top bar.
Which information should I provide to help?
Sorry, I am not an expert.
bilem
I do not know the Gnome environment so probably can’t help here, but it will likely be beneficial to those who can if you provide some system information:

Mini How-To for code formatting
Select and copy all the text in the Terminal window, then paste the output in between two lines containing three backticks ``` or three tildes ~~~ (or paste then highlight the text and click the </> button at the top of the reply window, easier for smaller outputs).

The inxi does not indicate a system issue to me (besides the usual no swap default install)
Can you elaborate what usual is for you.
- Have you stuck with the defaults after installation?
- Installed extra extensions?
- Does the
layout-switcherwork and can you get back to a default?
To keep in mind:
- Gnome updated to 50 and some extensions are not updated yet.
Thanks Hanzel for your answer.
Usually I see the desktop and the dock - right hand side.
As I mentionned the first reboot was ok. I observed the issue only the second time.
I didn’t install anything. Should I?
If the layout-switcher is the upper left button, it works but… I don’t see the dock and I have to use the layout-switcher again and again.
Well, maybe I just need to be patient.
In fact I saw after typing gnome-extensions-app that ALL extensions were inactivated - no idea why… Resetting dash to dock I was able to see the dock again.
The only issue left is that booting leads to the overview of all programs open. I have then to click the icon left of the top bar or press ESC. I can survive…
Mod edit: Consecutive posts merged.
No, just asking.
It is a separate program that offer a few different way’s to use gnome with some extensions eg:
It seems to me that starting the computer with an empty session might help. Someone will no doubt explain how to do that; ![]()
I’m in macOS currently, and don’t recall specifically where the setting to change lives.
Clearing the cache might also help:
- Logout
- Enter a TTY – Ctrl+Alt+F2 ↔ F7
- Login with your
usernameandpassword - Issue the following command to delete the
~./cachefolder:
rm -rf .cache - Reboot your machine immediately:
sudo reboot.
This is a safe action – any Cache content will rebuild itself as you continue use your computer.
Regards.
