Touchscreen stopped working after switching to `unstable` branch

Hi. I have an HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14m-dw1xxx laptop with manjaro-gnome[wayland] and windows 10 dual-booted.

About a week ago I switched to the unstable branch to receive updates for a specific package and after restarting, my touchscreen stopped working completely. I switched branched manually by editing /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.

My touchscreen was and still works normally on my windows 10 so the problem is not related to hardware. I have been using the touchscreen on manjaro in the last year so it’s not like it’s incompatible with manjaro.

Also when using the 360 capability on the laptop (folding the screen to the back), the external keyboard and keyboard backlight automatically gets disabled. Unlike the touchscreen itself, this is not broken.

Things I Have Tried

After a couple days and not finding anything related on the internet and in journal, I switched back to the stable branch using instructions on the wiki. But surprisingly nothing changed.

I am currently on kenel linux619 but I have 612, 617 and 618 also installed and I tried all four and nothing changed.

The output of less /proc/bus/input/devices shows 16 entries where none of them are related to a touchscreen (which should mean the problem is related to the kernel and the driver right?). The output is posted below.

What should I do?

Thanks in advance.

So to clarify: your touchscreen was working before switching to unstable from stable in the first place, but now attempting to switching back to stable no longer helps making it work again?

That is not how you switch branches, idk the behind mechanics but I’m sure there’s a reason for how to do it properly on the wiki. Anyways, seems You already found this when you switched back to stable but I think it’s too late now.

Chances are when you manually edited the sources and did an upgrade, some critical packages got removed due to wrongly configurating the branches and corresponding repos.

If you have backup (timeshift + btrfs snapshot or whatever else) try undoing your action to a point in time before you did the branch switch.

If you dont have any backups, then just try wiggling around branches by that guide, in order to put things back where they belong. If I were you, and being currently on unstable, then I’d do it in multiple steps, like, going testing first, do an allowing to downgrade (sudo pacman -Syuu), then lastly back to stable, and again allowing to downgrade.

If all fails, I know it hurts but: fresh reinstall.

Welcome to the forum! :waving_hand:

What package?

While switching from stable to unstable, lots of packages where upgraded (unfortunately I didn’t take note of which) but I was specifically looking to update tor.

Thanks for responding. Yes you understood me correctly.

Yeah it’s probably where I messed up. Later when switching back I found it in the wiki but at first I just found the branch url and manually copied it.

Unfortunately I don’t have backups so I’m trying my best to avoid a fresh install.

The surprising thing for me is that the touchscreen is not recognized by the kernel at all. There’s no trace of any touchscreen in journalctl -b or anywhere else which indicates that the issue is related to the kernel.

You’re welcome. But we will need your system info, in order to help
