Hi there, I have just installed Manjaro KDE on my Lenovo IdeaPad 5i laptop. All appears to be well, apart from random freezing of the touchpad. If I connect a USB wireless mouse I can resume work, or restart the system then everything is OK for a while, until it happens again.
I would be grateful if someone could help me to resolve the problem. Thank you.

Hello,
There are a couple of models, so being more specific will help.
Meanwhile you can check if this information helps from similar models, known to have touchpad issues:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Lenovo_IdeaPad_5_14are05#Touchpad
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Lenovo_IdeaPad_5_14iil05#Touchpad
Thank you for the reply. My model is a Lenovo IdeaPad 5i, 14 inch, 11th Gen Intel i7-1165G7 @2.80GHz , 8GB RAM.
Thank you. Hopefully this will help you:

I would start with the BIOS update
Please double check before updating the BIOS!
You could add pci=nocrs
to the /etc/default/grub in the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=
line, right before quiet
then update grub
sudo update-grub
Reboot after that.
Also you can make use of a keyboard shortcut for the touchpad toggle and you should be able to make it work again, on the fly, all this as long as Load system defaults
is disabled in BIOS.

Thank you for your help. I only have Manjaro installed, so will struggle to update the BIOS. But will follow your other suggestions and report back later.
You can make use of https://www.hirensbootcd.org/ from a USB stick, boot from it and will have like a working Windows, so you can update the BIOS, but once again, please double check before doing it.

Thank you. When you say add pci=nocrs right before quiet. Should it look like the screenshot attached? Not sure if I have entered it correctly.
Please pay attention to the formatting there. Make it like this:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="pci=nocrs quiet apparmor=1 security=apparmor udev.log_priority=3"
Thank you, I’m really grateful for your help. I have to go now, but will report back later today.
I have added pci=nocrs to the /etc/default/grub in the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= line
to the /etc/default/grub , then updated grub and restarted the system.
I have also created a keyboard shortcut to toggle the touchpad.
Regarding ensuring Load system defaults
is disabled in BIOS, all I see in the EXIT menu is Load Default Settings
. Is this the same thing? If I select this option I believe the BIOS will be reset.
Finally, shall I wait and see if I experience any more freezes with the touchpad before I update the BIOS?
Many thanks again.
I have now carried out all suggestions to resolve the touchpad freeze / becoming unresponsive issue. Including updating the BIOS. Unfortunately, the problem remains. If I activate my keypad shortcut, I can get it to work again - but this is only a workaround.
Is there anything else I can do to resolve this issue? I really like Manjaro KDE, and don’t want to change to another distro, or back to Windows.
If not, would you just accept the issue and continue as normal with KDE? Or night this issue corrupt, or do any damage to my hardware, or software?
Many thanks again.
