Touchpad and touch screen broken after kernel updated

Installed Manjaro Linux with KDE and both input devices were working. After it updated the kernel to latest version the touchpad and touch screen no longer work. Both still work when I boot from the live usb installed from.

The original installed kernel was 5.15.60-1 and the updated kernel I’m currently stuck with is 5.15.78-1. I also tried switching to newer kernels (5.19.17-2, 6.0.8-1, and 6.1.0rc4-1) with no luck there either. Both work on kernel 5.10.154-1 but sound and wifi stopped.

For the newer kernels it seems to be related to i2c, seeing these messages in dmesg (kernel 6.1.0-1-MANJARO):

[ 2.547414] i2c_designware AMDI0010:00: controller timed out

I have tried pci=nocrs and i8042.nopnp=1 with no luck using any combination of these options with any of the kernels available. I ran update-grub and rebooted after every time.

I want the touch pad at least working like it used to but not sure what else to try.

Any help appreciated!

Touch pad and screen broken after update - Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5

I have solved my issue. Good luck to others. Won’t find any useful info on these forums.

Would you be willing to share what you did? I bought my wife the Leonovo Flex 5 from Costco as her first Linux computer. Me not getting it working isn’t instilling faith for her.

I’ve tried other kernels. Its either the wifi doesn’t work or the touchpad doesn’t work.

Thanks

Jason

Oh the irony of that remark.
You have not shared how you solved it - not even a hint.

Same laptop, same issue. It works normally on live usb AND first boot after install, but after installing updates and rebooting, it’s not recognized anymore…

The hint is “not on this forum.” My solution was a dongle mouse or a different distro.
