Today's upgrade KDE Plasma Logs Out to a Black Screen

System boots and loads normally, 6.11 upgrade, system logs out to a black screen with a cursor,

Hoo boy. Not good.

Fix of changing Sessions to “Start with New…” seems to work, now can log out to normal screen

Wow. I already start with an empty session. Fingers crossed.

Same here… no problem’s with KDE then.

And i have PC and Laptop with KDE empty session, both already updated.

Try downgrading mesa to the previous version. I had been warned about this one.

You can to that from the tty command line.

sudo downgrade mesa.

After the downgrade, the black screen went away and no issues.

Saved session is silly all on its own, but I dont know why people wouldnt expect it to be a similar cause of issues in between versions as destkop configs or cache.

Why?

I had been forewarned earlier by another user to do this. It may be a mesa 24.2.2-1 nouveau driver incompatibility. If you are not using the nouveau driver, you probably do not need to do this. The roll back to the previous version fixed my black screen.

No problem for the proprietary drivers. Since my 2080Ti has still official driver support, there is no need to use nouveau driver for me.
