TLP works only after suspension

Hello everyone!
After several years of Debian and Red Hat based distros, I’m happily trying Manjaro for the first time!
I’ve insalled Manjaro XFCE 21.0.7, Kernel 5.10.42-1 on my secondary laptop (Acer Aspire 1, Celeron N4120) and tuned TLP a little bit, managing to get an amazing battery life of 8-9 hours. Unfortunately I’m facing a quite annoying issue: when I turn on or reboot the laptop, TLP seems that it’s not working: the CPU is stuck at >2GHz: I’ve tried to restarting tlp wth sudo tlp start, but nothing changes. But if I suspend and wake up the system, TLP starts working properly.

What could it be?

I would bet your specific settings are not compatible with your CPU. Get back to default values and report if the issues persist.

I’ve tried to load the default config file, but nothing changed.
Even if I think that if the settings weren’t compatible it shoulnd’t work neither after the suspension

That won’t do anything if it’s already started. It has a systemd service already enabled. Restart it instead:

systemctl restart tlp

Your changes aren’t helping anything. Restore the file to defaults as suggested. the - lines are default, the + lines are your changes.

Hello!
Currently I’m already running the original configuration file as suggested by Wollie, but the result is the same. Also, the problem is not that tlp is not working at all, but that it start working only after waking up from a suspension…

I’ve also tried to restart the tlp service with systemctl as you suggested, but it changed nothing

What is the output of

systemctl status tlp

a) after boot
b) after supspend/wake up

Also, please post

sudo tlp-stat

What you also could try:

systemctl mask systemd-rfkill.service
systemctl mask systemd-rfkill.socket

These services should be masked when tlp is used.

I’ve tried to mask those two services as you suggested, but apparently nothing changed :pensive: And I use only tlp, tlp-rdw and powertop (I use this one only to monitor the battery discharge rate)

To be fair, I’m trying other live distros (Fedora, KDE Neon, various *buntu) and TLP shows the same exact issue. Am I missing something?

Then maybe it’s hardware or firmware related.
