Hi.
I buy this dongle of tp link. it works out of the box for manjaro.
But… i cant put it in access point. In the configuration panel says “this device dont support… access point”.
But, it is like that? i saw a couple of webs that says that it have, at least some people with raspberry pi it seems that use it as AP.
But the info is too old, and dont find links that works.
Also, probably i will end broking something.
Somebody could give me hand to put this dongle in access point? I will like to share my LAN network.
If the access point function is available, depends on the Chip in your dongle and the driver. Sometimes the driver does not support it, even if the Chip can do it.
Manufactures like TP-Link buy WiFi Chips form different vendors and use different types. So just because one generation of TL-Wn725N has this function, doesn’t mean all have it.
The first step is to find out which WiFi Chip is inside your dongle. Usually lsusb will tell it.
As mentioned - capablities depends on the firmware - some devices support features depending the driver.
I have a TL-WN722N which exist with different firmware where most is ralink. I sought out a specific version which uses another chipset (Qualcomm Atheros Communications AR9271 802.11n) - which has excellent kernel support.
You should be get some info from the device
Assuming your device is the only one it will be phy0 - look for Supported interface modes
