TigerVNC and authentication problem

Hi guys!
I’ve got two PC’s with Manjaro, one that is my daily driver, another which I use for swap/file server. I want the server to run headless mode as I want to just set it and forget but to also have a VNC access. For that I followed tutorial from here and installed TigerVNC.

I managed to install everything, I can connect to it from my daily driver through Remmina but I can’t do anything system-related. Every time I want to do anything, mount a new drive, do a system update, I get authentication failed information. I’m kind of lost here, I can’t find anything related either in the topic that I used to install it or in TigerVNC ArchWiki.

I’m sure I’m missing something. I just for the life of me can’t figure out what. Anybody had to deal with that before?
example issues:

What am I misssng here?

EDIT
Of course researching 2 hours and deciding to post this, I managed to make it work. In case somebody else is looking for same answer - In my case, it was KDE Authenticator. Starting it worked:

/usr/lib/polkit-kde-authentication-agent-1

… two screenshots

  • re the first one:

did you refresh the devices as the message suggests?

I always prefer gparted instead - but that is just me and my biased opinion.

  • re the second one:

that is pamac-manager (the GUI to manage updates and installations)
and the message says that authentication failed - which to me means:
you mistyped the admin password that you where prompted for

Please don’t use screenshots, btw - or, if you have to, upload them to some pastebin site and link to them here.

As soon as I press to refresh devices, it just turns off. When I turn it on again, it shows the same screen.

I did not mistyped anything as I did not typed my password anywhere except TigerVNC login and password to connect to it through VNC. There was no pop-ups or anything like that.
Only after using the command that I’ve posted, THEN I started to get pop-ups to put passwords in.

If there’s a big deal with uploading screenshots which exactly show the issue - maybe it’s a good idea to disable that feature on forums?

Is there a big deal about writing a brief description of your issue that others will immediately understand?

There are reasons why the posting of unnecessary (and particularly large) images is generally discouraged; mainly to avoid server load, but additionally, because images are not searchable.

A carefully constructed description can make all the difference. Unfortunately, this is one scenario where the adage ‘a picture says a thousand words’ means nothing if a search engine can’t read those words.

Rather than replying to Moderation staff or any other member, with what could be considered a snipey or snarky comment, please instead acknowledge and conform to the simple request.

Regards.

or rely on peoples compliance and understanding that verbal descriptions are almost always better
and that pictures can’t be parsed like text can be (except by humans)
and that pictures do take much more space in forum backups - storage space which does indeed cost someones money …

It’s in the forum rules, btw - the rules that no one seems to read …

I gather you are logged in remotely - perhaps the user you are connecting as does not have admin rights on the target machine.
That could explain the “Authentication failed”.

I prefer to add a simple screenshot as it can explain my issue way better than I can, as English is my 3rd language. I sorry if I offended anyone by putting my genuine questions in a bad way.

I’ll make sure to refrain from using the forums next time or triple check with someone with better knowledge of the language that my post is not offending.

Have a good day.

You can post in your native language …

You didn’t.
You just demonstrated that you don’t care about the rules
and:
you didn’t achieve what you intended as well

… which presumably was:
to be understood :man_shrugging:

Don’t be offended so easily - especially when you ask for help.

Relax.
Be good! :slightly_smiling_face:
