Iāve had the same issue. Hereās what I did in the Thunderbird UI. I have no idea what underlying configuration change is done because this seems identical to how this was set up before.
- Go to Thunderbird Settings.
- Type āContent typeā, you should see a two-column list of content types and handlers.
- Switch both http and https Actions to āAlways askā.
- Find some email with a link. Click the link. Thunderbird should ask for a selection, choose āfirefox browserā. Link opens.
- This (asking for a handler) should happen every time you click a link.
- Now click a link again and choose āDo this action every timeā (or similar, I donāt remember).
- Should be fixed now.
If it helps anyone, I had this exact problem on my motherās computer today and hereās the solution that worked for me (with KDE Plasma though).
I had installed Thunderbird in English. I then changed the language to French.
It is at this point that hyperlinks were tested and didnāt work.
I tried a lot of things (default applications, mimetype files, etc.) but this is what I did that actually fixed the problem: I switched the language back to English, then back to French.
I have no idea why this did the trick, but the hyperlinks are now working.
Rebooting might also have solved your issue.
Now you sound like a Microsoft Windows telephonic support engineerā¦

I wouldnāt know.
Iāve never had to deal with them (there was never an issue I couldnāt solve myself).
And before you askā¦ No, not by reinstalling.
