I tried to install Manjaro on my old laptop - HP Pavilion dv6. I burned ISO to USB as usual, everything is right. When I try to boot from USB, it outputs “Welcome to GRUB!” and it gets stuck forever. I waited for 10 minutes - nothing. Is this some kind of uncompability? How can I boot and install Manjaro (any desktop environment) on my old BIOS (no UEFI) laptop?
Trying to install Manjaro on my old 2011 HP Pavilion dv6 laptop.
Downloaded the XFCE version (also tried it with the GNOME and Budgie versions), created a bootable USB using Balena Etcher.
USB works perfectly in other devices, boots into the LiveUSB ready for installation.
However on this particular laptop, it gets to the ‘GRUB Welcome to GRUB!’ screen and then just stops.
I left it on that screen for 24hrs with no movement at all.
Some distros install fine, such as Pop_OS, Debian, Solus, E…
When I start the Bootable USB, Manjaro does not start, it leaves a completely black screen with the word GRUB written in the upper left corner and it does not progress from there. I have made the USB with Balena Etcher and I don’t know how to solve the problem
Hello everyone,
I’m looking for some help with installing Manjaro on an old HP Pavilion dv6. I wanted to try to upgrade it with some more RAM and a new SSD and install Manjaro on it.
This specific pavilion has Intel i5, Nvidia Geforce 320M and now 8GB of ram and and a 500g ssd.
The problems rise when trying to install some distro on it.
I tried several (every Ubuntu distro, Zorin and Mint) and none of them even boots up, I get always the same error:
