Yes, linux510 5.10.175-1 won’t boot for me either. I am also using the i915 driver. 5.10.174-1 works for me (5.15.103-1 works also).

This is literally the same bug I had on 5.15.99 a week ago.

You can send a report to the Linux developers, like described here:

In two words, the problem is in drm-i915-don-t-use-bar-mappings-for-ring-buffers-with-llc.patch

I noticed linux515 5.15.103-1 works for me with i915.

Most likely that is the issue here. Since the other LLC patches got removed I really wonder how that slipped in. Seems I’ve to write Greg again. I really wonder if 6.3RC is now working on i915 at all …

Yes, as only the following kernels are affected by this: 4.14.310, 4.19.278, 5.4.237, 5.10.175

Hi,
Friday’s kernel 6.1 and 6.2 update gives me a black screen, I have to downgrade to 5.15.
What should I do to get my system back in order?

Some info:

It looks like your running the nvidia-470xx driver.Have you checked to see if it’s been updated for the latest kernels. If not 5.15 is an LTS kernel so maybe stick with it until the drivers are updated.

This morning I got a new update only for kernel 6.2 and nvidia-470xx, but nothing has changed, still black screen… I’m sticking with 5.15 for now.

@jeanluc This packages always update due new kernel updates. 470.161.03-25 (b85d5564) · Commits · Packages / Extra / linux61-extramodules / nvidia-470xx · GitLab

booting the just released 4.19.278-2 still fails with the same problem:

Keeping the old kernel for now…
Cheers,

A little error did slip in the package change url : it’s “859” that should be read instead of “856”.

Fixed it.

drm-i915-don-t-use-stolen-memory-for-ring-buffers-with-llc.patch « queue-5.10 - kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git - Linux kernel stable patch queue seems to be another patch to fix the issue. I could do a 5.10.176-rc1 build if @stasadev is willing to give it a try …

Well it will be based on 5.10.175 plus the RC patches on top. With 5.10.175-2 I reverted the offending patch, which I won’t do with the RC kernel as upstream claims additional drm patches fixes the issue we have now. You may give 5.10.176-0 a run when it is available and give me your result: Releases · manjaro-kernels/linux510 · GitHub - it is currently compiling: Rebuild Kernel · manjaro-kernels/linux510@cdeb2f9 · GitHub

I’ve no issue to trigger 4.19.279-rc1 too: Rebuild Kernel · manjaro-kernels/linux419@23b8019 · GitHub. Find it here in 3-4 hours: Releases · manjaro-kernels/linux419 · GitHub

Also I figured out why 4.19.278-2 didn’t worked. It seems that kernel is not yet adopted to apply the patches as we do it in other kernels …

We should not push them to stable, but I guess you know that.

Maybe give 5.15.104-0 also a try when ready: Releases · manjaro-kernels/linux515 · GitHub There the patch got reverted in 5.15.101 but never readded, so we might have again only a partial patch set for i915-drm …

Ok, thx. Can you also test 5.15.104-0.1 when ready? I readded the patch again, which broke it the first time! Releases · manjaro-kernels/linux515 · GitHub

Both kernels 5.10.176-0 and 4.19.279-0 are booting fine now.
Thanks, Philm !

Kind regards,
Eddy

Kernel 5.15.104 is good too ! :+1:t2:
