QEMU >= 7.0.0 changes split package setup

2022-05-09 - David Runge

With the update to qemu 7.0.0 the package has been turned into a more fine grained split package utilizing meta packages.

  • The qemu package is now virtually provided by the meta packages qemu-base, qemu-desktop and qemu-full.
  • The functionality of qemu prior to 7.0.0 is replaced by qemu-desktop
  • The functionality of qemu-headless is replaced by qemu-base
  • The functionality of qemu-arch-extra and qemu-headless-arch-extra is replaced by qemu-emulators-full
  • The meta package qemu-full provides all QEMU related packages (excluding qemu-guest-agent)

Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (5.15.2) with this library (5.15.3)
  • Check the mirror you use is up to date:
sudo pacman-mirrors -f 5 && sudo pacman -Syyu
  • If you use qt5-styleplugins (AUR), rebuild it:
pamac build qt5-styleplugins
FIXED? VPN via L2TP might not work anymore

See FS#74089 - networkmanager 1.36 breaks vpn with networkmanager-l2tp

You may need to downgrade to 1.34.0:

sudo pacman -U https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/l/libnm/libnm-1.34.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/n/networkmanager/networkmanager-1.34.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

FIXED? DSL/PPPoE may require downgrading 2 packages

See my-internet-connection-is-no-longer-working and FS#73948 - networkmanager 1.36.0 breaks DSL connection

Please check if 1.36.2-1.0 of NetworkManager improve things, else downgrade to 1.34.0:

sudo pacman -U https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/l/libnm/libnm-1.34.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/n/networkmanager/networkmanager-1.34.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

New warnings when building the fallback initcpio - Possibly missing firmware for module: bfa, qed, qla1280, qla2xxx

That’s due to the recent changes to the linux-firmware package. Note these are warnings, not errors. You only need those firmwares if you have Mellanox Spectrum switches, Marvell devices, Qualcomm SoCs, Cavium LiquidIO server adapters, QLogic devices and Broadcom NetXtreme II 10Gb ethernet adapters. if you have that hardware you can install linux-firmware-qlogic to get rid of those warnings. If you do not have that hardware you can safely ignore those warnings.

pamac install linux-firmware-qlogic

sudo pacman-mirrors --fasttrack 5 && sudo pacman -Syyu

should i do a downgrade or wait? So far all seems fine by me.

The NVIDIA packages were temporarily downgraded to the 510 series before the stable snap. They have since been restored back to the 515 series. You don’t need to do anything if you want to stay with the 515 series.

error in journalctl since this update!!! Not before…

gdm-autologin][692]: gkr-pam: couldn't unlock the login keyring

Autologin in Gnome is working, Seashell tells: “Schlüsselbund ist gesperrt”;
everything else is o.K. - is this cosmetic or a bug??
Now I did “unlock” with my user-PW - and then:
Lock is open in Passwörter/Anmeldung - that means password is unlocked

EDIT: frickel-arround is to keep gnome-keyring 1.40-0.1-1
EDIT2: seems that gnome-keyring 1.40.1-1 does almost the same as 1.42.0-1

  • but the 42 version does an entry in journald.log, version 40 does not…

I am getting an error with waybar after the last update:

The fix for me was to use switch to the waybar-git from the AUR.

A post was split to a new topic: Hardware accelerated video decoding / video playback in Chromium seems to be broken (again?)

Kernel 5.18

I am now able to build r8168 package from here:

Thanks, my network card works now.

will next testing update include all modules of linux518?

Hopefully with the one line for the 5.15 nVidia driver included so peeps don’t end up having to drop to a TTY to add it to be able to get to to their desktop.

People are still running into this as Arch based distros update to the 5.18 kernel.

linux518 is on rc7 atm and seems to work fine on gnome:
