System Update problem,often

We’ll handle orphans after the update.

This output looks like the package lists didn’t update after the mirrors, as it should have. So let’s try this::

sudo pacman -Syy

See if it’s successful, and then update:

sudo pacman -Syu

I have been around for a long time, and amongst other things I have learned, is to exercise due caution - when telling a fellow member to execute a specific task especially when the member appears to be uncomfortable and in doubt.

The safe way is to let the package manager tell you if it is safe to remove

sudo pacman -Rns libkipi

If it is safe it is done - if it is not you have to adjust the command for any new packages named in the output.

Using the remove orphan option to pamac remove is also pretty safe - but we cannot make the decision for you - at some point you will have to press the launch button - or your are getting nowhere.

here are the outputs, the first it seems worked:

thank you for the safe command. i’m in doubt cause i caused a crash once by removing some orphans by myself. so knowing there’s a safe way is better.
i will try the orphan command after the update…

Suggests that it wasn’t too slow, since that isn’t too bad a speed.

However, this:

says quite differently. So try different mirrors?

sudo pacman-mirrors --countroy=all

AFAIK that should, in theory at least, use the CDN. (I haven’t seen a n0o0tification that it doesn’t exist anymore…)

And then try the update again:

sudo pacman -Syu

i’ve done as you said. just correct the synthax error “country”

sudo pacman-mirrors --country=all

i mean, not due to mirrors this time.

it can be an idea to clean the orphans first?

Luckily not.

In a previous update announcement, dbus was handled. And that is what seems to be causing this error.

So, remove the old dbus-daemon:

pamac remove dbus-daemon

Make sure you don’t restart, and do the update again:

sudo pacman -Syu

Followed by installing the new dbus-broker package:

pamac install dbus-broker

Let’s see if that helps…

something is wrong

pamac remove dbus-daemon
Error: target not found: dbus-daemon

Install dbus first and it will remove the other one. Then repeat update.

What he said :point_up_2:
