System kernel panics / freezing after encode

Hi.

For a bit of context, back in November of 2022, i tried to put 2 GPUs in my system. This has managed to make it unstable for quite a while. Where it would just occasionally freeze, lock up, or kernel panic. I don’t know what’s happened but it seems to be running alright now unless when I encode something.

When I encode, whether it be through FFMPEG, Handbrake or through rendering a video in Shotcut/DaVinci Resolve, it would almost always be followed by a kernel panic or lock-up.

I use Handbrake for converting my DVDs into Video files. It would be fine for like the first couple, but it would freeze after a few.

I don’t know what’s causing this issue. I think it’s also affecting my Windows partition too. Because sometimes windows doesn’t want to work at all.

I’m not entirely sure but I think it’s a GPU issue as sometimes the screen would flicker, glitch and black out after these encodes.

I’m still mostly a newbie but if someone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Rob.

Welcome to the forum! :vulcan_salute:

Judging by what you’re describing, I’m guessing it’s a matter of either overheating or of your PSU not being powerful enough.

I’ll have to check overheating… somehow, but my system has a 750w PSU, and my system shouldn’t be using more than around 500w.

I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be looking out for so here’s what it says.
