System hangs at reboot/shutdown

They have been there (with linux) since it was brand new. Iv had linux of one sort or another, with them there at boot, working fine on here for years.

They were there when Manjaro used to shutdown properly, and they will be there, if i reinstall it, and it again will shutdown properly.

yes thats true, but you still have hardware issues, either motherboard or cpu… update your bios to the latest…

Yes, updated bios but still the same, but you’re chasing fairies. There maybe a hardware problem that has been there forever, iv always thought its just the way linux boots, it seems to not like the very early power state when you have just started the boot process on this laptop, i dunno, but I’m not worried about it because it has been there forever.

Iv been testing the same distro from a live stick and it shuts down/reboots perfectly fine every single time. Its a bug or mess-up of my doing somewhere in the os/application/software, i’d bet my house on it.

well you did mentioned that you have to reinstall your system every 6 months…
also run fsck on your drive just to be sure…
also you need to probably reinstall again, because you have there a lot of errors, but thats up to you…
try switching to different kernels and try with them: 5.18 and 5.10

I only have to reinstall because i get a bug after an update that no one can help with. There are a whole load of problems in-between that that people can help with, and they are not hardware issues, its just the usual banging your head against a wall linux experience (im talking multi systems, not just this lappy). Besides, if whatever was not working is working after a reinstall then it can’t be hardware? If it works of a live stick it can’t really be the hardware, can it?

Hmm, yea the next kernels, i have already tried them, not due to this problem but just to keep up to date. Problem was leaving this LTS to anything higher started causing the sleep failure again. It wont go to sleep when the lid is closed. This kernel fine, no problem (well ^^). You might say well there you go but i don’t see it. It had the sleep problem some years back, then it got fixed now it might return, how can that possibly be hardware.

I shall give the latest one another try, it was quite a while ago that i tried, we shall see.

there a post here from people whos live usb worked perfectly, then they installed it, and bum system doesnt work properly - audio, wifi, etc…
yes try the 5.18 and if the sleep works with it, then just reinstall, because of those x11 and other errors… when you in the live usb, open ksystemlog app select priorities: emer, aler, critic, warning, error and check if there are the same errors as you have now

well i did grab a priority 4 log, and as far as i can tell its just the way linux is, there is always errors and warnings even in a brand-new system

But yes, the topmost hardware errors are still there but as i say, they are, and have always been there.

this looks good, its look like normal plasma logs, except those mce errors… so on live usb everything looks good…

Yea, normal. So all my log errors have been accumulated over time via software changes, updates, me tinkering blindly etc

yes it looks like it…

What about all this stuff? Should i put it back to how it was?

yes, i have it disabled, even though i had no issue with it, its just another unnecessary service, so just disable it…
did you check logs in the new installation, if everything is ok?

Im not doing a new installation. I dont have the time or energy. I hardly ever actually do a reboot/shutdown so meh. When im feeling a bit better i might get to it, but not ATM.

However, thank you for time and support :+1:

Your NAS is the culprit. The timeout for mounting/unmounting should be decreased (or rather a systemd automount should be used rather than in fstab).

Ok, so how do i decrees the timeout for that?

Regarding the mount at boot, i have already been through all of this without remedy yet System will not mount NAS at boot, although the mount does work fine after its finished booting

I’m reading this kwin_x11 and QDBusConnection hanging on shutdown/reboot / Newbie Corner / Arch Linux Forums and this Kwin_x11 not stopping during shutdown

Looks very similar

Tell me it’s not an arch/Manjaro bug.

Ok so we found that this is a known bug and according to some has been fixed but what does that mean to Manjaro? When does that get pushed to myself?

p.s. I did try not mounting all my NAS but that did not work.

i had same problem.
i did two things.

  1. change your kernel in settings (better to previous versions and of course LTS ones.)

  2. instal all graphic driver (especially ones who has linux name)

Sorry about the late response. This computer is at work and I didn’t have access to it until today. I’m not quite following your instructions. Could you elaborate in detail where to enter what?

It is unclear what your personal problem has todo with this topic besides the title…
Slipping in your own problem in a topic with a similar but not same problem is called thread-hijacking…

The grub config you show is already missing info…
