System freezing when music player changes track

This issues started I believe around three months ago, not exactly sure as since April I havn’t used my computer a ton. When my music player goes to the next track, the entire system hangs for anywhere from half a second to a second and a half. This doesn’t always happen, but 90% of the time. It’s nothing to do with the music files, as I can skip back and forth and get different amount of freeze. This behaviour has been noted with multiple music players. Strawberry, Quod libet, and VLC. It shouldn’t be a disk speed issue, as my music collection is on a different drive than the operating system. If I set Strawberry to output directly to the soundcard video with ALSA rather than go to pipewire, the issue is improved, but still present.
Any advice for how I would begin to diagnose the issue is greatly appreciated.
