System freezes when I switch desktops

I actively use kde desktops. Every 1-2 days system freezes when I switch desktops using shortcut.

Before freeze:
all new windows, popups and other dialogs show only black space. But old windows fork fine.
When the system freeze:

  • sound is active, and I use media keys to control

  • I can control a mouse cursor

I bind this command to shortcut: kwin_x11 --replace >/dev/null 2>&1
And sometimes it works, but sometimes not and I need to reboot a system

Also I tried:

  • to install new linux core
  • change composer to picom
  • install another videodriver (video-modesetting)
  • to live without virual desktops. Froze again =(

I found a nice solution - kubuntu

Since Kubuntu uses an older kernel, I wonder if using the 5.15 kernel would solve the issue. 6.0 is relatively new, and bugs sometimes go hand in hand with new kernels.

I’ve been using 5.15 kernel. This is not a kernel problem. This is new plasma problem

Thanks for that. With all the bugs KDE has had, its a wonder anyone uses it.

I have been avoiding KDE for many years - instead using openbox window manager.

But then I started messing around with LXQt and in the process I added kwin - one step lead to another - and I ended using a stripped down version of the default minimal Manjaro Plasma.

In the process I sold of my Nvidia and replaced with an AMD WX7100 and for several months now, I have been reading about one issue after another, even a is-Plasma-stable thread.

BUT I am not a gamer - I am not tweaking or tinkering with Plasma settings - and I have no serious issues - in fact none at all. Even dual monitor setup works.

Nvidia and KDE seems to be an awful combination to me. At least based on the posted problems I have seen. Id say about 60% either have a Nvidia or KDE problem, if not both. I like Lxqt with openbox. Nice and stable. I was having a nvidia issue that kept me on 4.19, but I upgraded to a Rx 570 8gb and now run 5.15 without problems.

Even Gnome on Wayland is a challenge [HowTo] Use Wayland with proprietary NVIDIA drivers

If you want to use Wayland then Nvidia is off the table - at least IMO - I like to avoid issues which is why I replace the GPU - I really wanted to test Wayland on my primary system and it works very, very good.
