System freezes under heavy GPU load after today's update. AMDGPU RDNA3

Hello today’s update causes my system (with RX7900XTX) to freeze under heavy GPU load such as playing games. This happens a few seconds the GPU is under full load. journalctl does not show any GPU crash/erros. I have swapped the GPU with a different card, RX6900XT, which does not freeze.

Checking the pacman logs there are 2 notable updates:

[2025-07-20T13:36:21-0400] [ALPM] upgraded mesa (1:25.1.5-1 -> 1:25.1.6-1)
[2025-07-20T13:36:23-0400] [ALPM] upgraded linux615 (6.15.6-1 -> 6.15.7-1)

I have confirmed this is not a hardware issue as I tested the original card in another PC. I have heard there was a issue with linux-firmware with RDNA3 and RDNA4 cards but I am not sure if the issue I have are related.
Is there a way for me to undo the update?

Indeed, a note was included in a recent Stable update announcement thread under Known Issues and Solutions about the general replacement;

and in the Unstable update thread (July 2005);

However, at face value, this doesn’t seem obviously related to the issue you describe; with a little more detail, others should be able to help pinpoint the problem.

Please provide system information as described (below) and any other specifics that might assist those wishing to help.

Regards.

Welcome to the Manjaro community

As a new or infrequent forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements, and the many ways to use the forum to your benefit:

Update Announcements

The Update Announcements contain important information and a Known Issues and Solutions section that should generally be checked before posting a request for support.

System Information

While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; :eyes:

Output of the inxi command with appropriate parameters will achieve this (naturally, formatted according to forum guidelines) and will generally be more useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form:

inxi -zv8

Be prepared to provide output from other commands whenever asked. It’s equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.

Does it also happen with Linux 6.12?

No - you cannot.

BUT - if you have a copy of your system before the update - e.g. timeshift snapshot - you could roll back.

Kernel 6.12 does seem to work better than 6.15. Today in my testing 6.15 does freeze or green screen during some benchmark runs but unlike yesterday the system just freezes for a second before continuing.

I will need to do some more testing but so far I have not encountered issues with the 6.12 kernel.

System information has been previously requested;

inxi -zv8

which may assist others to identify contributing issues.

Sorry here is the inxi output:
