System freeze with kernel 6.5 and 6.6, runs fine with 6.1

Since the update that brought kernel 6.5, my system freezes after startup when I use the recent kernel. All monitors stop receiving any signal. I can only revive the system via reset button. I had hoped the problem would go away with the next kernel update, but unfortunately I have the same issue with the new kernel 6.6 as well.
With kernel 6.1 the system runs without issues.

To be more precise, my system is configured to start directly into the Xfce4 session without additional login required. Depending on which monitor I use as primary or only monitor (of course I have tried several combinations), I can see the Desktop for half a second or so, but already frozen, before the monitor goes blank and the system won’t react to any input.

If I have this address right you have BIOS updates…
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-Z690-A-DDR4/support

Good idea!
Unfortunately, it didn’t fix the issue, though. Even with latest firmware, the behavior is the same as before. :-/

inxi -M is now:
Machine:
Type: Desktop Mobo: Micro-Star model: PRO Z690-A DDR4(MS-7D25) v: 1.0

Having some swap configured might have an influence.

Do logs show any errors of the boot that freezes?

I don’t think the swap is a problem. I do have a swap partition. Don’t know why it is not listed by inxi. (Edit: It was disabled. I have enabled it now.)

Some boot log excerpts of the last boot that froze that might be relevant:

So apparently some issue with the graphics card?

I have the same problem with Kernel 6.6 AMD Phenom 6core CPU and Nvidia gt 960.
As i did set the system into standby and tried to start it again few hours later, it didnt turn on the monitor anymore.
I had to turn the pc off, even then, the Monitor didnt turn on anymore, so i had to switch it off/on too, that it did snyc again. And after that the resolution was at 640x480 instead at 1280x1024.
I did switch back to 6.1, because everything works there.
I had it before too, i think with 6.1 and nvidia-530, i did go back to nvidia-470.
Seems there is something messed up again, but since i got an older system, i dont think 6.5 has for me any advantages.

Edit: I did try after the update 6.5, where it works, 6.6 still dont get my Monitor out of standby and keyboard does not work too.

No further ideas, did find this post: AMD RX 6700-XT GPU randomly turns screens black, requiring a reboot. (Page 2) / Kernel & Hardware / Arch Linux Forums
Searching for ’ amdgpu: Failed to export SMU metrics table! ’

Since you have DP & HDMI, but wild guess, shot in the dark etc.

Issue is the same when I connect either the DP or HDMI monitor only.

Any suggestions where else I should report this issue? Kernel mailing list? AMD support?

Good news: system appears to be running without issue with the experimental kernel 6.7.0rc3.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help!
