Synaptics driver for acer 515-56

I have a problem with my Touchpad… It seems it needs a new driver…the diver in the AUR Repositories is outdated…How can I install a deb. file in Arch, since Synaptics provides only a debian file for ubuntu?
Thank You Very Much

There are options … such as debtap and alien_package_converter … but…

You probably dont want to.

xf86-input-synaptics exists in the repos.

What package do you think you need in the AUR?

Many packages, like -git ones dont get a version bump … so you may just be confused about its current state.

What are you actually tring to install?

What driver are you using now? I would suggest libinput.

I am trying to install the newest driver for my Touchpad from Synaptics. The one you mention is an old one. it’s the one I have installed. And that’s the problem.

I am using the driver from the official repositories. xf86-input-synaptics 1.9.2-1

Theres not any newer synaptics really … its pretty old and hasnt been getting updates for some time.

You continue to evade the specifics here … what are you trying to install? Are you sure its newer? And what you want? Maybe share a name or link.

I am trying to download a touchpad driver from the acer site:

  • Date:2020/09/23
  • Version:13.6.18.1
  • Partner:ELANTECH

It seems that this one hasn’t been updated: (and would like to download it too)

  • Date: 2020/09/23
  • Version:19.0.25.10
  • Partner:Synaptics

I am using xf86-input-synaptics. Is libinput a substitute for the one I am using?

I wonder if that corresponds to 1.9.0-25 (wherein the repos we have 1.9.2-1)

You can see that the source for xf86-input-synaptics actually did get updated in 2022 (after a long period of inactivity beginning in 2018). So it would seem it is actually more recent than what is on that website.

Yes. Thats what the modern standard is.
Though some prefer to continue using xf86-input-synaptics (I do).

But of course you are free to try installing their deb/rpm package if you really want to … I already suggested a few options for doing so in the first reply.

Yes. You suggested it and did not recommend it…I rather use the repositories option, libinput.I will try
Thank you very much

Oh yeah heres the relevant wikis

libinput is installed but libinput list-devices shows this:
