Sudden resize of entire display to be bigger than resolution

I’m experiencing a weird, intermittent issue.

Occassionally, when working in a browser, the entire desktop (not just the browser) seems to “zoom in” a bit, such that it stretches beyond the edges of the monitor. If I move the mouse around the screen, the display will follow the mouse (that is, revealing parts of the desktop beyond the screen to where the mouse is heading, and hiding parts of the desktop on the opposite side).

If I change resolutions, that doesn’t change this; the “virtual desktop” is still bigger than the screen at whatever resolution.

If I restart the xserver using systemctl, it reverts to normal.

I can’t tell if this is a bug, or if there is some weird key combo I’m inadvertently hitting sometimes that switches the desktop up, or what.

I have Manjaro Minimal XFCE. Not much else added. Dell XPS 13.

Thanks so much!

I don’t use XFCE but I googled “XFCE zoom” and it seems that ALT+mouse wheel is used to zoom.

THANK YOU!!!

I was googling around for “screen resolution suddenly changing” and “screen resolution zooming” and just couldn’t find it. Thanks so much for the help!
