there was nvidia for sure. he has 6 monitors and it took us a while to make them work by tinkering the xorg.conf when we first installed manjaro for him. so I’m sure he needs nvidia drivers.
he told me the system got stuck after he was trying to update the kernel and he couldn’t.
I hope that makes more sense.

Sure.linux66 is available on all branches … so maybe try to sort mirrors first;
sudo pacman-mirrors -f && sudo pacman -Syu
Note: It is possible if you have an old mirror pool that it is stuck with very outdated mirrors.
sudo pacman-mirrors --country all

I recall mhwd-kernel failing when I was running a custom kernel. Maybe this is a similar situation.
Its of no real matter, at least for now.
You can hopefully still install using pacman;
sudo pacman -Syu linux66 linux66-headers

I would still like to see the output of
pacman -Qs mhwd
Because I feel some packages are missing.

just to clarify, I’m on the live usb now, and the terminal you see is after doing manjaro-chroot -a.
The command you gave ran just fine.
( takes 10 mins for the whole process and for me to get back here on the browser, so I’m careful rebooting now

I did remove conky, I did ‘sudo mhwd -f -i pci video-nvidia’ , it ran fine and then I rebooted.

Other approaches may be checking any config files, such as
cat /etc/X11/{xorg.conf,mhwd}.d/*
Or possibly editing boot options to remove ‘quiet’ so we can see where it fails
