Strange Spectacle Bug

Hi,
of course i have searched the Forum and Internet about this bug, but nowhere find something similar to this. I mean, it’s not a freeze, i don’t get an error message. Actually everything is even working. It’s just sometimes, maybe when i took my 20th screenshot after 3 hours Linux-Session. Suddenly, when i like always press the Print-Button, it happens before or after i clicked on the rectangle-Button, it happens:
The whole screen turns upside-down, the display is flickering a little bit, the taskbar disappears, very strange like i said. When i move mouse windows it gets even worse, i get even more flickering and it seems that the true Alignment lies under the wrong display an shines through. It’s odd.
The good thing is, i even found a solution, which i first didn’t know and always reboot Linux when the bug happened. The solution is quite simple and works every time, i have to press Alt+Tab at least once and the whole display seemed like repaired.
Because of this solution i try to get used to it and thought, maybe the bug disappear when i get update for graphic card or any other update. The bad news is, it doesn’t help. Most hope i had a few days when i changed my Kernel 6.5 to 6.6, but it happened again yesterday.
If somebody has similar experiences with spectacle or has a solution that works effectively and permanent, please let me know.
(or do i have just some dust on the card?)

greetings

Your Infos are pretty weak… don’t expect real help from that and your text is also not formated…

Anyways, I had something similar in the past… not sure if this helps you. Sometimes my KDE Desktop was upsite down and rendered black/white, it was really strange.

I think it mainly happends after gaming and only rarely but after i deselected “Allow application to block composing” in System-Settings>Display Monitor>Compositor and the visual bug vanished.

You should always post your System Infos if you want help:
$ inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width

Hi Kobold,
I am sorry to use less formatting then i should, but i try to become better in future.

You are right, i checked the settings about the Compositor and i still have kept the standard configuration from the beginning, because it didn’t want to mess things up.
But when it was a solution for you, i will also try to turn this blocking off and test if my bug it returning. I will make a reply about this again.

You can have my system info.

Another thing i forget to mention is yesterday it was the first time that this bug happened even without using Spectacle. So i think i used wrong topic, although the screenshot-app seem to be connected with the bug in first place.

Did you used maybe a 3D Application or game before this bug happends?

Atleast this was the point for me, when this bug triggered after i was done with gaming… but i never could tell when exactly it occurred because it was a rare situation. I remember i also had Dolphin open and when the bug happends, it also instant vanished after i closed the last Dolphin window.

The Desktop turned sometimes 180°, depends where i moved the mouse.

It’s long time ago that i use 3D, and it definitely happened few times without using 3D-Application in the session, that’s for sure.

It seem to be same error like i had, i just wonder which graphic card did you use when the error occured and if it is Nvidia card which driver did you use?

It happends few month ago, maybe 4-5 month and i still use nvidia 2080Ti and im always on stable driver.

If your bug showed up without using a fullscreen application/ 3D application, i think you have probably a differend issue.

Actually i wanted to change my nvidia-driver, because of this issue, maybe change to a legacy one, but in the other posting i changed my mind, because i have a maxwell-card, and even a employee told me in a nvidia-chat, that my 545 driver is good for me.

But on same day i started this post, i really took my graphics-card out of pc-case (since a few years), took the tweezers and removed a handful of dust from the spaces in between. Then i plugged it back in and the error really didn’t come again and this is already 6 days now.

Maybe that was the real reason
(but my testing continues)

OK, 7 days after removing dust, the bug happened again.

Now i try to disable the blocking of the Compositor.

The deactivating just triggered the bug directly on time, but let’s see if it helps from now on…
