Strange KMail error message

I am facing a very strange error. Kmail isn’t able to send messages via another than the main account. If I am trying to send a mail via gmx par example there comes an error message.

Server error: 5.7.1

Sender address rejected: not owned by user

It follows the login name of my main account (not the gmx) that has nothing to do with the login name of every other account.

The error occurs on a PC and on a Laptop. The second one isn’t in use normaly. So it is missing the latest updates. → The problem wasn’t caused by an update nor have I changed any configuration. And it is more than one email-account that is affected, so it is likly not a server problem.

While you can configure multiple servers for incoming mail (i.e. POP3 or IMAP), you should normally configure only one outgoing mail server (i.e. SMTP) and not try sending through another one. Some servers don’t allow for outgoing mail, and some require you to authenticate for your account at that particular email domain.

But Kmail always accepted more than one account. I have been using it for more than twenty years now. First with Fedora, than with Mageia and now since nearly ten years with Manjaro. It never made problems when using more than one account. The authentication allways worked. I may not send the private emails with the company account; and definitive not the business mails with the private account.

It could just be a configuration issue at the server end, too. My ISP has issues like that all the time.

A workaround is the to change the standard address.

It concerns every account not being the standard one.

It seems to be a problem of Kmail. Otherwise the workaround would not work but that’s strange.

Could it not be a network problem? For instance, if you use a VPN, then your IP address may have changed, and some server configurations require you to send from one specific IP address, or an IP address within a certain predefined range.

No. Everything is as it has been.

The network works as always.

Well, then maybe it’s just an error at the server end?

If I were you I’d just wait it out and try again tomorrow. :man_shrugging:

I have tried today. The problem still exists. It seems to be an error in Kmail. Maybe I should wait for the next update.

It could be something local to your installation, or it could be a change in policy over at the domain whose account you’re trying to send through. :man_shrugging:

Hello! I’am using kmail too. For days I can not sending mails too. I called my provider and sending
mails using the webmail right now. The server runs.
