Stop Manjaro forum threads from automatically scrolling down as new replies come in?

For instance I will open the Stable Update announcement thread, maybe read a few posts, then have to leave it. When I come back, the page has scrolled down on its own to the latest reply. Then I have to both remember where I was and scroll up to it. I’m using Firefox in xfce.

This is the normal behavior of a Discourse-powered forum, and I’m afraid this behavior cannot be changed.

Discourse keeps track of what you’ve read, not just for the convenience of being able to more easily pick up where you left off, but also for compiling and updating the statistics for your forum account, such as how many threads you’ve visited, how many posts you’ve read, how much time you spent reading, et al.

:man_shrugging:

ah, okay, thanks for the explanation! I’ll experiment with unloading the tab. Or what I do if pausing a video: open a new adjacent tab and search the time I left off at as a marker (in case something crashes), or in this case the number of the post. Then I just update the search tab figure when I leave off again (sometimes many times, over days/weeks etc).

on another note, I tried this search to see if any creative workarounds popped up. Glanced at it for now, possible fertile ground…

Either close the tab or go back to the main forum page before you “leave”. It will always remember where you left off no matter how many replies were added.
