Steam won't launch games

I tried verifying game integrity in steam app and looked around the forum but I can’t find a solution. Here’s the output from the terminal while running steam-runtime and trying to launch a game (tried on Baldur’s Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, planescape: torment works fine). I also tried reinstalling steam app. I have no idea where to go next.
(Game shutdown at the end od the output is because I closed the steam-app after failed game launch)

Hello @cidig,

have you enabled “Steam Play” in the settings?

Settings -> compatibility

Hi @cidig,

It might be because of the steam package you have installed. According to Steam/Troubleshooting - ArchWiki

Warning: Using the Steam native runtime is not recommended as it might break some games due to binary incompatibility and it might miss some libraries present in the Steam runtime.

As explained in:

So I might be totally missing the point, but try using the plain steam from the repositories instead:

pamac install steam

It helped. Thank you!

The steam play was checked. But the games launched after checking also the second option:

Which is weird because I played bg3 since months and it worked fine. Perhaps some update changed things. BG3 should NOT require the second option, should it?

Normally not, than Steam says its “Steam-Deck compatible” … but who knows. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

As far I can see, steam-runtime and native are both availble when you install steam in Manjrao. I tried both and it didn’t help. The other reply solved the issue. :wink: Thx

Only games marked by Valve don’t need it, but basically the option is required if you want to play Windows games, not much games are “fully compatible” with Proton and marked as such (but in reality it is the opposite, not much game are not working under Proton). The Steam Deck compatibility is not what makes the game marked “fully compatible with Proton”, this metric is for SteamDeck only regarding controls and overall performance. Historically, I think the “SteamOS + Linux” mark was what determined if you needed or not the “Enable Steam Play for all titles” setting, if it is not marked with that tag, you needed the setting to be enabled for Proton to automatically pick up the game. //EDIT: To be fair, it is not clear, Steam Deck full compatibility should be a marker, but for games not marked with Steam Deck tag it can also be “fully compatible” in some case…
