Steam games wont lunch

when i try to lunch any game button just says running for a second and then it closes. i have isolated problem down to “hard drive” is ntfs and i cant “chown” directory that steam uses on hard drive where steam directory is. Gpt told me that i should edit fstab but said that its dangerous to do so. So before i do this i just wanted to ask here if its ok to do following ? :

UUID=C8E4AA15E4AA05B2 /media/boss ntfs-3g defaults,uid=YOUR_UID,gid=YOUR_GID,dmask=027,fmask=137 0 0
sudo mount -a

Asking ChatGPT for technical advice is quite often a bad idea - I definitely wouldn’t trust it to get things right, and getting things wrong can lead to data loss so… Not a great idea all around, really. I’m pretty certain that the code snippet you have won’t work, for a variety of reasons.

I’m guessing that this is attempting to share data between a Windows install and a Linux install - this is also, generally, a bad idea (especially if a game has a native Linux version). With all that said, according to these posts on Reddit, the following instructions should work.

1.Look for a directory called “compatdata” under

~/home/USERNAME/.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata

2.Make a symbolic link from that folder to the identical location on the NTFS Steam Library.

sudo ln -s ~/home/USER/.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata  /media/STEAM LIBRARY IN NTFS DISK/steamapps/

3.And if it doesn’t still launch the, change the file permission

sudo chmod 777 /home/USER//.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata

Thanks this helped, i just had to tinker a bit with commands and move the file first but it works now
