Steam will launch normally, and games are even playable, but trying to use Big Picture mode will result in an immediate crash. I created a support ticket with Steam, but I’m starting to think the problem lies somewhere on my end, but I can’t seem to figure out exactly what’s going wrong.
I’ve tried reinstalling and downgrading my graphics drivers, to seemingly no effect. I’ve uninstalled, re-installed, and even reset Steam. There is no difference to running steam vs steam-native. The flatpak version works properly. And I discovered while trying to diagnose this myself that the normal version will even “work” if run through strace -f. I’m running into the limits of my knowledge here, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just make sure you’ve updated everything and do another test launch. If that fails, I’d gonand submit an issue on their github page here:

I initially submitted that issue after doing a lot of testing myself. I just doubled back to post the issue here to make sure I wasn’t stupidly missing something. I would hate to have bothered them when it was a mistake on my end.
I’ll try that later and report back, thanks. In the meantime, I have tested it under xfce, just to make sure it wasn’t something with i3wm. Still no difference.
One of the steam developers has been able to pinpoint from my CrashID that the error occurs when trying to load panorama.so. Presumably, this actually is a problem on my machine and not steam.
Any ideas on what I can try to diagnose this further? Considering the flatpak works, can I try to use it to see what’s different between its runtime and mine?
