Everything seems to work again on wayland
Please do not post AUR problems in the update topic.
Qspectrumanalyzer has been thoroughly debugged in another topic - it is abandoned since years and can be made only halfway working as of now. Use the forum search.
Now back on the update topic:

- i do not use steam
- Network manager works
- i use telegram from the repos, works
- my only electron app draw.io works
- SOME of the flatpak app work. So i am going to concentrate my reports on this for now
Mesa definitely is an issue of sort, but not the main issue (i see the error for the first time, it was not there last week)
A bigger issue seems to be libc:
For example io.github.amit9838.mousam

Letâs have a little deep dive on why this icon theme may have broken things. More or less it was this change: Inherit from Adwaita (!3) · Merge requests · GNOME / Adwaita Legacy · GitLab
adwaita-icon-theme-legacy is a dependency adwaita-icon-theme which is a dependency of gtk3 and gtk4 - most likely is also installed on your system. Adding Inherits=Adwaita
to a theme you may not use might create issues as in some implementations donât support circular inheritance. This happened with steam, electron or the flatpak apps. They looked for the Adwaita theme, which might not been active on your system. Before it only looked for hicolor
. So they kept crashing cos the legacy theme depended on adwaita which itself depends on the legacy theme. So a non-working cycle was created.
Here an example for python code:
class A(B):
#body of class A
class B(A):
#body of class B
This code wonât work because B is not defined when class A got created. It proves the concept of circular inheritance. class A inherits from B and B from A⊠so youâre just creating a loop of inheritance, and python would not be able to evaluate this since thereâs no way to look at any class individually.
I only received a pacnew for /etc/makepkg.conf.d/rust.conf
. Is that OK? I did miss the 2024-10-01 update if that makes a difference.
Besides that, everything is running smoothly.
If you do not get a .pacnew file during an update there is nothing to compare or merge
.pacnew
s are generally only created if you have made modifications to the file in question.
If you never touched, ex, makepkg.conf
then you likely wont get a pacnew for it.
Confirm all electron based apps work again by only upgrading adwaita-icon-theme-legacy
from 46.2-2
to 46.2-3
. My setup is KDE Plasma on Wayland, NVIDIA card.
Now everything works great! Thank you!
electron apps now are OK! THX!
New ISOs are now online including the latest fixes âŠ

Updating the adwaita-icon-theme-legacy
package also fixed the Electron app issues for me! Thanks very much for your work @philm!
Updating the adwaita-icon-theme-legacy
package also fixes the issue with my crashing Vivaldi.
Thanks for the hard work.
I havenât had the issue related to this adwaita-icon-theme-legacy 46.2-2
though.
It DOES occur if I change to default icons/themes, at least for me on XFCE.
Thank you very much from my side as well - after updating the icons it works for me again as well.
All your hard work is very much appreciated.
For some reason, after this update and a few extra steps, KDE / SDDM and the console didnât allow me to sign in anymore.
It seems like the /etc/shadow
file was changed, and my password hash was replaced with something like âusername:pend[âŠsome other characters]â (canât tell exactly anymore).
I donât know exactly how this happened, but I can tell that before I rebooted after the upgrade, I tried to add my user to another group.
I logged out and in again, but I couldnât see myself in the new group when I executed groups
.
So I tried it again, and this time my sudo password wasnât accepted anymore.
So I tried changing my password using the KDE settings which wasnât working as well and the dialog told me that I have to wait for 10 minutes, before I can try again.
In the end, this comment helped me to fix the situation: Locked out of account - please help! - #6 by linux-aarhus
The passwd file wasnât changed, but the shadow file was and I was able to restore my hash (?) using the /etc/shadow-
backup
I didnât use any tool to merge pacnew files, nor did I manually edit passwd/ shadow file before.
Yes i am currently experiencing an issue due to the update. (Please post about it)
Posted here about it:
A post was split to a new topic: Problems printing out certain .pdf files
I only got the rust.conf
pacnew myself
From doing a little research, it looks like some lines were removed from makepkg.conf
and moved over to this one so taking the changes looks all fine and dandy!
I have mesa held back from updating. No hurry on it if I do not use mesa anyway and the system is working fine otherwise. I think I will try it. Wish me luck.
No go. I got a gray screen with a cursor. Journalctl says plasma was not loaded. So I did a timeshift restore.
I have plasma commented out in pacman.conf, but I have not tried updating again.
I got two rust.conf
and pacman.conf
, where is rust.conf
BTW? I forgot to write down the path for them.
