[Stable Update] 2021-08-27 - Kernels, Cutefish, NetworkManager, Gnome, Pamac, Mesa, Browsers, Xorg-Server, LibreOffice

It was already posted in the announcement:

what you did was change to the fastest 5 mirrors in your area, at this point in time which might lag again next time, so:

  • check the mirrors for your location!

  • use

    sudo pacman-mirrors --country Country1,Country2 --interactive

to manually take the fastest and up-to-date mirrors in your and any other neighbouring countries

  • keep doing that until you’ve found the fastest and stablest mirrors for you! :innocent:

  • the Manjaro team does not manage these mirrors: they are managed by local volunteers contributing to the team.

Interesting. I have had this issue with LightDM failing to load intermittently since kernel 5.11 was introduced and on only 1 specific laptop (I have 7 machines running Manjaro).

I always wrote it off as some sort of esoteric timing issue, because sometimes it would fail 5 times in a row and then not once for a week. Sometimes it would keep failing on one specific kernel and switching to another kernel would instantly boot the laptop, but a week later that kernel would suddenly have LightDM fail.

I was too busy with work to post about the issue and usually one or two reboots would have my laptop working, so that has been my workaround for quite a while now.

I also had the problem that LightDM failed during startup.
For me adding logind-check-graphical=true to the [LightDM] section in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf did the trick.

This resolved this issue for me: Lightdm failed to start with Kernel 5.11.14 - #10 by philm

After update and restart, Dolphin toolbar icons were too small and text labels looked bad (HiDpi Display + scaling).
Fixed it by setting global scale back to 100%, logout/login, global scale to custom value, logout/login.

3 posts were split to a new topic: KDE error for sddm-greeter: Could not find the Qt platform plugin „xcb obs“ in

Yes, I needed to do that with one AMD gpu machine, but I guess it won’t do much for an Intel only laptop, right?

Thanks! I’ve added this now. Let’s see if I get any LightDM fails this week.

Another xorg messed up my desktops issue.
After full install & reboot my primary and secondaries are switched with NEW secondary only displaying default xfce wallpaper.
By timeshifting I see it’s xorg-server or xorg-common.
Not only has the location for backgrounds changed, all images are GREYED OUT !
By installing & timeshifting in steps the correct primary and secondary positions are maintained.

Is this configuration ignoring a new feature or error by xorg developers ?

A bit like getting robbed because you went down a dark alley at night is no longer a crime but reimagined as a feature of the area.

UPDATE:
I’ve found that the image location selector cant locate hidden directories ie. mine is in a sub-dir under .conky.
So moving my image to default xfce location and it survives reboot.
It’s ONLY the PRIMARY that has the image location changed !

- New issue - fan keeps turning on now. And it’s XORG causing it.
I’ll give it a day or so but if it persists I’ll timeshift back and block xorg updates.

I cannot offer a solution or any input here, sadly. This post is purely out of curiosity:

@jaroMAN
fan keeps turning on now. And it’s XORG causing it.

How did you figure that out?

A post was split to a new topic: Computer unsusable after new install

It’s very probably a bug in an application. Try stopping all applications (themes too) and see which one is the culprit.

cc @fhonb

This bug (outdated udev rules that disables important features from nvidia cards: audio over hdmi, USB xHCI Host Controller and USB Type-C UCSI devices) is still present (or at least my file /etc/udev/rules.d/90-mhwd-prime-powermanagement.rules has not been updated).
If this is supposed to work only on new installations (but still i think that the two usb devices are still not enabled in the last mhwd-db version) then I think that we need to add an entry on the “Known issues and solutions” wiki, otherwise everyone who hasn’t a fresh installation from the new iso will keep this bug forever (or add a script in a new update that patches the current installations)

Install worked.

But reporting a warning for “failed to start” that has always been there.

I’m on KDE and I have a Radeon RX 6800 and after this update I couldn’t get to the desktop. My monitors would turn off.
I was on Kernel 5.10 LTS and after updating to 5.13 everything went back to normal.

xbacklight used to work on my laptop. Now I get:

xbacklight
No outputs have backlight property

The function keys still work for dimming the display, but there seems to be no software way to do it anymore. Any help greatly appreciated.

This update upgraded PulseAudio from 14.2 to 15.0

https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Notes/15.0/

With this PA has made absolute volume feature of bluetooth audio enabled by default. It messed up all my bt speakers that don’t support absolute volume.

Documented solution:

This feature can be disabled by passing avrcp_absolute_volume=false to module-bluetooth-discover in the default.pa configuration file.

default.pa can be found at /etc/pulse/default.pa
