[Stable Update] 2021-02-09 - Kernels, Gnome 40-Alpha, KDE Apps 20.12.2, Systemd, Mesa, LibreOffice

Somehow the stable snap kicked out .36 that I had pushed.
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

I just pushed it to stable again.

no complains so far. thanks for the work manjaro-team :+1:

My bluetooth mouse has beome TOO sluggish but the mousepad on the laptop is OK
Also the sound is always set to 0(mute) on the startup and screen brightness to 100%

May depend on what DE you’re running. I’m running cinnamon. I was able to replace pulseaudio very easily just by selecting manjaro-pipewire to install, which did give me warnings about dependencies regarding pulseaudio. It installed all necessary components (pipewire-alsa, pipewire-jack, pipewire-pulse…etc) and removed all of pulseaudio components. Rebooted, so far so good. Double checked and pulseaudio is no longer installed.

Scratch that. I do notice some issues with Pipewire and firefox. Can’t get any videos to play. May have to revert if I can’t figure out why.

Edit 2: Looks like the issue I had was with bluetooth. Tested out my headphones and it worked. After disconnect though I had numerous issues with sound and Pipewire really hitting the CPU hard.

A post was split to a new topic: Error attempting to update wine-gecko-bin

I think It’s a GNOME problem more than Manjaro problem as a whole. Or maybe a Manjaro GNOME problem. Because I run XFCE on my notebook and I’ve never ever had any problems while updating (XFCE + AMD graphics).

On my desktop I have Nvidia + GNOME and it’s a nightmare even on the stable channel. Before every update I run Timeshift and pray.

Something really needs to be done to address the never ending issues with GNOME and Nvidia …

the update was long, but in the end there were no problems
thank you for your work

PulseEffects does not work anymore.

The Arch pulseeffects package does not have the correct dependencies. If you want to use Pulseaudio, use the pulseeffects-legacy-git AUR package. If you want to use Pipewire (here be dragons), use the pulseeffects-git AUR package.

Please create a new post in #support:applications for repo packages or #support:aur for AUR packages if you have issues.

I can’t do this update without incurring graphics glitches.

On KDE plasma, I have an i3-4130 with intel HD graphics only.

2 attempts already - and 2 restores to get back to a working desktop.

No significant Journalctl errors…

Any ideas? Now clearing up some Timeshift entries and will have another look …

Could it be the kernel? Ran the update, no reboot (running the 5.10.7-3-MANJARO for the last 72 minutes).

Creating a snapshot now, then will reboot to the LTS kernel.

Redshift stopped working after this update. I fixed it by changing the location provider to manual and specifying latitude and longitude in ~/.config/redshift.conf, something I had not done before.

I can reproduce it with 4.1.0.r35.g15f78f8-1 as well. There’s an open issue:

pulseeffects-legacy works as well

pulseeffects-legacy 4.8.4-2 AUR

Cinnamon, 5.4rt, all is well. thanks Manjaro team!

Kernel 5.10.13 - would not boot. Kernel crash. Pretty sure I was using nvidia 550 drivers. Workaround: switched to 5.4.95 kernel w/ nvidia 460.49 drivers.

I did before, was not very productive. Is their project and they decide anyway.
Might try again to have a conversation. If you look at all Opera (stable, beta and developer) browser icons, are no longer in the same family of shapes as the rest of Papirus icons.

My locale settings also disappeared. I manually edited /etc/locale.gen and uncommented the locales I use.

KDE 5.20.5.
Just updated. Update went smooth as warm butter.
Rebooted. Absolutely zero (0) problems here!

Thank you, once again, Team Manjaro. You.Are.AWESOME! And it shows.

@ this stage, both pulseaudio & pipewire seem to coexist.
Stay with pulseaudio for now as pipewire seem not to work properly (I’ll open a thread on that)

If you need PulseEffect (everybody should need it) use pulseeffets-legacy
