This stable is a not updated at 2 months why? Manjaro stable is end support?

Welcome to Manjaro forum @nunomgnunes

Most likely suspect for update delay is Plasma 6.5

For the sake of clarity - last stable update was September 29.

Manjaro Linux stable branch - is just that - stable, reasonably stable.

If you want more rolling - testing or unstable is the answer to your prayer - please see the wiki for Switching Branches - Manjaro.

An important distinction.

If the problem is Plasma 6.5, why not just pause Plasma 6.5 instead of blocking important updates?

Similar questions are sometimes asked.

All that can be suggested is to search the forum for similar topics, some of which might help you gain an understanding of the complexities involved.

There is likely no simple answer to your question, apart from… ā€œIt will be ready when it’s readyā€.

If you have an urgent need to update to the latest packages available, consider switching to either the Unstable or Testing branch.

Be prepared to provide output from commands when asked. It is equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.

Simply waiting for others to ask you questions can be counter-productive – typically, nobody has a :crystal_ball: at their disposal – instead, please help others to make informed suggestions based on information you provide.

System Information

While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; :eyes:

Output of the inxi command (with appropriate parameters, and formatted according to forum guidelines) will generate information useful for those wishing to help:

Suggested inxi command (use either):

inxi -zv8 (short-form)
inxi --filter --verbosity=8 (long-form)
inxi man pages (manual)
If running `inxi` within a `chroot` environment
  • Add --color=0 to the long-form command, or…
  • Change the short-form command to inxi -zv8c0

Don’t forget Gnome 49!

Easy to for those of us who don’t use Gnome.

This is likely another good reason for the ā€œdelayā€; we can’t rush ahead with the one which is ā€œreadyā€ at some point, before the other one is.

I can already predict the ā€œI wasn’t toldā€ and other complaints when X11 support is removed completely – scheduled for Gnome 50.

Stable shall be stable, not reasonably stable, I don’t care for 6 month delay. If I want a rolling release I just move to testing.

Imagine you’re watching all the upstream bugs - plasma 6.5 looks good, but then 5.1 has some issues so it gets held back until most of the issues are cleared, and so before those other updates came through it’s not really possible to say ā€˜ok, so we should hold back 6.5 now because 6.5.4 is gonna suck…’.

Hence the expression ā€˜Reasonably Stable’ - though I’d go with ā€˜Relatively Stable’… because I don’t trust too many people’s level of reasoning to match my own.

So now your question is not serving you too well. What you have to decide is if you’re happy to wait with what you’ve got.

Some folks will jump on unstable as soon as something shiny and new comes along (my hand is up here… yup, I’m a sucker) and many will shout loudly how it all seems to be fine and dandy.

But there ARE issues you don’t see, so it’s up to you to decide whether to jump Testing/Unstable or just sit with Stable and stop reading all the news about what’s coming through.

In case you forgot what Stable means, Ubuntu’s LTS still has qBittorrent 4.4.1 from 2022 (I have 5.1.3 - and 5.1.4 is out on appimage).

yas - it quite depends on your reference object(s)

Manjaro Stable branch is a little more rolling - but the thought - I get it

I was wondering a bit about the ā€œlong quietā€, but I’m perfectly happy to wait for the team to be confident enough to release the next big update.

At least for me, rolling the release in a stable direction is much more important than new, shiny and broken.
I experienced that many years ago with Aptosid and I don’t want to experience that again. So a big thank you to the team for your efforts.

I am waiting on python-pikepdf>=10.0.0 (already in the other branches) but I try to remain patient

I remember when Chakra wasn’t getting updated and the same sort of questions came up. Chakra tho had a small team, people were leaving, changes were made especially to how GTK apps were handled. I hung on, trying a couple of other distros, but they were still behind in releases. Finally I gave up the ship and moved on. None of that applies to Manjaro. A look at testing shows it’s still being worked on. Meanwhile I’m fine with not doing big updates for awhile.

Unfortunately, Manjaro IS understaffed. The Team is in my opinion on the bare minimum as number of persons working on the project if not under.
I can just hope it will not cause the death of the distro in the future, but so far it is rolling ok. Let us be optimistic and hope a little bit more financing for hiring more developers will be found in the newly coming year.

Well, it depends. Basically Mark and I do some work for Manjaro but we don’t know for how long …

One has to earn money to eat… it is hard to monetize a free linux distro. Let’s just hope for the best.

I am also enthusiastically waiting for a new update of a thrill. But reasonably I don’t need it. Everything works well on my production and entertainment computer. So, the Stuff, please take your time :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

There is of course also the problem of potential Big Breakageā„¢ if the update skips too many versions.

I can already foresee a flurry of issues for Plasma users with the upgrade from 6.3.6 to 6.5.*, and likewise for the GNOME users — in both cases because of the amount of changes.
