Speaker (sometimes only left) and mic not working on HP Zbook G5 Studio (Bang & Olufsen)

Hi,

I have a hp zbook g5 studio laptop with a Conexant CX11970. When I boot the laptop, headphones are shown as sound device (speakers not available) - this only happens in Linux, not Windows. Sometimes it seems sound is activated (cannot reproduce reliably), but then only left top speaker works.

The device itself has 4 speakers (top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right). They work in windows.

I tried to start playing with hdajackretask but it doesn’t list any sources to connect to (only shows “Not connected” as a choice.

Sound used to work, but stopped a few updates ago (about a month, but didn’t really have time to investigate further. Sound works on 5.15.76 LTS kernel.

I booted some live usbs (fedora on 5.19, manjaro on 5.15) and those did not have sound issues.

Very weird but after booting those other OS it seems that sound works now on 6.0.6 as well… can’t explain it.
