Sound switching off after random period of time

To remove PulseAudio module that suspends unused audio devices:

@nikgnomic

pacmd unload-module module-suspend-on-idle

if that works Pulseaudio configuration can be changed to disable the module permanently

sudo sed -i 's/load-module module-suspend-on-idle/#load-module module-suspend-on-idle/g' /etc/pulse/default.pa

this adds a comment tag ‘#’ at the start of the line to stop module being loaded

To turn off power management for onboard audio device (ALC233):

I created a file with

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf

and added this:

options snd_hda_intel power_save=0 power_save_controller=N

This appears to now be persistent and does the trick.
