I have a high resolution laptop. 3840x2160 . Most applications text is sized ok.
I am using Plasma X11 and set to 150% scale factor but some apps like Gparted and Rustdesk come in with real small text.
I end changing the resolution to 1920x1080 before I run these apps.
Is there a better way to deal with this?
Thanks
It sounds like the scaling factor is not applied to gnome based applications (since I assume you use the KDE settings)
I don’t have access to a PC right now, but you might be able to solve it to find a way how to scale gnome applications under KDE.
Maybe this source helps: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/596887/how-to-scale-the-resolution-display-of-the-desktop-and-or-applications#596888
looks like gamescope might work for me
So far only my steam game don’t work with it. It loads to a larger screen but fonts remain small.
Probably by moving to Wayland. Since X11 WILL go away, it might be useful to get used to it.
In display configuration I was able to get gparted to use the system scaling. Just now, by making this change under:
Legacy applications (X11):
Apply scaling themselves
Scaled by the system
(Change the bullet to the latter..)
Gparted is a very common gtk app, but that other is Flutter? I have no idea how that works.
Ok switched to Wayland.
Gparted is better with the above setting set but fonts are still a little small.
I use the Global Menu at the top of the screen. Maybe its the theme I am using but the icons are almost off the bottom of the menu bar.
I will look into if there is a setting for that.
Any other suggestions for using Wayland on a 3840x2160 screen on plasma and nvidia.
Thanks
I also just noticed my mouse every once in a while hesitates.
Looks like cairo-dock has been ported to Wayland. This is great
Don’t forget to mark an appropriate post as the solution.
I am afraid I can’t help there, the largest screen I have access to is 1920 x 1080, and… I avoid nVidia like the plague.
I thought the 150% limit on scaling was small for Plasma given what they are coming out with now. They always seem to be throwing 2160p into smaller surface areas, even laptops!
I am sure flexible frameworks like gtk let you configure them further. A short little dive led me into configuring ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini (Which I think gparted is?) But my changes did not seem to have any effect trying to do all versions. But this is not my forte.
Gnome has scaling that lets you go up to 200%. (Which is 4x times bigger really, so that’s another option.)
Where do you get only a max of 150%. I just checked, I get up to 300%
You’re right. Last time I checked a few months ago, I swear I couldn’t go higher!
Gnome used to be 200% or nothing as well.
Both have changed. (I run all three DEs, I can’t keep up!)
