Software upgrade fails

When I try to do a software upgrade using the GUI, I get this;

When I click ‘close’, I get this;

When I click “apply”, I get this;

Checked the forum for suggestions, and ran
sudo pacman-mirrors -f5 && sudo pacman -Syyu
at the command line; It downloaded 600 files (took 90 minutes) and then said that there was a corrupted file and nothing was upgraded. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
Any idea what I am trying to fix and how to fix it? Thanks.

It could just be an issue with the mirrors; it seems some are a bit lax when it comes to syncing. Apparently the Global (or is that International?) mirrors are the most reliable and up-to-date.

If you post your system info this should also reveal which ones you’re using.
To this end, please provide the output of:

inxi -zv8

… please use the code formatting (the </> button at the top of the Reply window or the three backticks ``` on lines above and below the pasted output).

Note: This output is privacy-filtered using the above command. :wink:

Cheers!

I’m not familiar with pamac or pamac-manager - the GUI tools you used.

I’d use pacman
(as opposed to: pamac - sounds similar, isn’t the same)

sudo pacman-mirrors -f
or
sudo pacman-mirrors -c germany
(or your preferred country or region)
to refresh the list of mirrors

Then use:
sudo pacman -Syu

see what you get …

Separate base system updates from updates to whatever you may have installed from AUR.

first the base system - then the rest

It’s worth noting I switched to the German mirrors some time back, as I was getting fed up waiting for the UK ones to sync! :wink:

I think there are more - and faster
and faster up to date ones
among them than the UK ones.
(I’m not judging - and I never tried the UK servers from here …
I did use them when I was there … some time ago)
It would probably be even be a decent choice to use them from South America or Australia - but I cannot actually know that.
That is what the -f flag is for - or the --continent flag … :wink:

I switched to Global and i am so far satisfied. Only one time they were broken (offline) for some minutes, rest of the time they sync first.

I use World wide, because my VPN exit node changes.

the point here was to refresh the list of mirrors before an update using these
not to “promote” a certain one in a specific area

I updated the mirrors and ran

sudo pacman -Syu

It downloaded 2 updates and then I got this;

error: libvpl: signature from "Daniel Bermond <dbermond@archlinux.org>" is marginal trust
:: File /var/cache/pacman/pkg/libvpl-2.16.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst is corrupted (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)).

error: failed to commit transaction (invalid or corrupted package)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

Have you tried removing that manually?:

sudo rm /var/cache/pacman/pkg/libvpl-2.16.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

…?

This could be due to the polkit authorisation issue affecting kernels older than linux66.

Try installing a newer LTS kernel via the CLI:

For linux66:

sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux66

For linux612:

sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux612

For linux618:

sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux618

Reboot into the new kernel and see if you can do your update via the Software Centre.

Please copy and paste the error message (including several lines before and after it). Running the sudo pacman -Syu command again shouldn’t re-download the packages, so you won’t have to wait another hour & a half.

Edit: I see that you have just done the above request. There are some other topics in this forum with advice on dealing with the "Daniel Bermond <dbermond@archlinux.org>" signature issues:

https://forum.manjaro.org/search?q=Daniel%20Bermond%20%3Cdbermond%40archlinux.org%3E%20order%3Alatest

(sorry I can’t spend longer on this at the moment, but I have to head out for an appointment in a few minutes)

So it looks like the package manager did the deed already — as you selected “y” to delete it, but I’d have thought it would confirm this.

I think @scotty65 is right. :wink:

I downloaded linux66 and rebooted, and ran

sudo pacman -Syu

The result is the same;

I tried this solution (workaround?) from another thread;

Actually I removed the entire keyring folder

sudo rm -rf /etc/pacman.d/gnupg
then Re-initialize

sudo pacman-key --init
then

sudo pacman-key --populate archlinux manjaro
and at last

sudo pacman -Syu

That seemed to work (at least I got rid of Daniel Bermond!). I think I’m back in business; Thanks to all -FrJRV
