Slow to resume from suspend

I have a problem where my computer is quite slow to resume from suspend to idle, taking on the order of a minute. It feels faster to use suspend to disk! I have an Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 GA503QS. Here is some journald that I hope will shed some light on the problem when viewed by someone more knowledgeable than I.

Notice the gap between 14:26:24 and 14:27:39. Some of this time was the period between me telling the computer to go to sleep and me attempting to wake it. But I attempted to wake it at some point before 14:27:39. Yet there was still a sizable delay between me pressing a key to wake the machine and the first journald entry after that.

And as you can see, the computer does not appear to actually finish the suspend process until after it’s been told to resume. It is as though the suspend process itself gets suspended. Then when the computer is waking up, the suspend process has to finish before the computer can actually wake!

I also notice that userspace processes are not frozen until after the gap, when the computer is already starting to wake up. I haven’t done any tests, but I worry that this suggests that even s2idle’s more limited powersaving features are not working properly.

Does anyone have any ideas about what can be done to correct this behavior?

By the way, the output of cat /sys/power/mem_sleep is [s2idle], so I don’t seem to have suspend to memory available to me, although naturally I’d greatly prefer if I did. Perhaps there is a way to enable it on this computer; I haven’t looked into it. I should probably try – if I could get suspend to memory working properly, I would just use that and wouldn’t be concerned about pathological s2idle at all.

I have another Asus laptop on which s2idle is the only suspend option, and it always crashes after suspend – much worse than the behavior exhibited by this laptop. Are these suspend issues a common Asus problem or an s2idle problem? What a shame that s2idle is so ubiquitous these days.

doesnt the cat /sys/power/mem_sleep output deep?
check your bios/uefi settings, and see if there is some option/setting related to this…
also check if you are on RAID, instead of AHCI, that could also cause issues with suspend/resume… - if you are on raid and you are using windows, you will not be able to boot into it, if you switch

Hi and welcome to the forum :+1:

Check these threads: Search results for 's2idle ACPI' - Manjaro Linux Forum
Most probably it’s a BIOS setting that you need to change…

Thanks for the tips! I hope my slowness to respond here is not mistaken for ingratitude; it’s just been a busy few days.

Nope! Which does confused me, since hibernate seems to work fine.

I haven’t been able to find anything but I’ll look more closely.

I’m on NVMe

Thanks! I’ll work through these and see if anything looks like it might be useful. I tried to do some searching before making a forum post of my own, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be something useful in one of these threads.
