Slow and lagging system on modern hardware

Hi,

A few weeks ago my system started slowing down significantly intermittently. When that happens, opening a new terminal takes a few seconds.

During these times htop shows either aur/teams-for-linux at 100% CPU or a browser at 100-200% CPU. Closing both “solves” the issue. I’ve tried several browsers (brave, firefox and chromium) and the behavior is the same. The browser can have a few tabs open or hundreds. The slow down occurs at intermittent intervals and isn’t reproduced reliably. But it happens numerous time a day.
My workflow hasn’t changed before the slow downs started. Other than the above GUI tools, I only use CLI tools. Although they don’t consume much CPU they are affected during slowdown. I’m using the Manjaro i3 flavor.

Other, similar, threads didn’t help. intel_gpu_top during slowdowns shows under 30% resource consumption. Below is as much information as I understood can be helpful to debug.
Using slices didn’t help, either.

cat ~/.config/systemd/user/teams.slice
[Slice]
CPUQuota=200%
MemoryHigh=6G
MemoryMax=8G
MemorySwapMax=4G

systemd-run --user --slice=teams.slice /usr/bin/teams-for-linux

Same for whatever browser didn’t limit the slowdown to the program.

Can anyone, please, help me debug why my system runs slow, at times, when using either teams or a browser?

you are running the 5.17 kernel which is end of life, so install the 5.19.1-3 and switch to it and remove the 5.17 and test if you have lagging with the 5.19
why dont you have any output from journal? did you edited the journal conf and set the storage to none?
also those dmesg look strange, you have only audit messages there and a lof of them and nothing else…

Thanks. Ill update the kernel and try again.

The journal and dmesg commands are run at lower verbosity (exact command above each). The latest output for said journal command is from two weeks ago so omitted.
